No. As Jedi said, they are mandatory in the AHL. And in NCAA hockey all players have to wear a full face shield or cage.

There will be a day when visors are mandatory in the NHL. I'm actually surpried the league hasn't tried to force the issue yet. The owners pay guaranteed contracts, they should be doing everything they can to protect their players.

Yes, but I think the insinuation was that Euro's are *******.

I think the reason that the league hasn't foreced the issue yet is because Bettman and his gang of idiots have been busy with real issues like changing the names of the divisions and conferences, changing the name of his title from president to commissioner (anyone wonder why it's still called the presidents cup?) making teams play each other 8 times in the division without having playoff seeding within the division. (the younger kids probably don't remember that) and trying to figure out whether to keep giving 2 points for winning and a point for losing or to give 3 points for winning or 2 points for losing one way and 1 point for losing another way, and giving Florida 2 teams and Callfornia 3 teams, whether or not to make the nets bigger and rounder and not letting the goalie play the puck and well all the other burning issues on Bettman's to-do list. It took a girl dying in the stands to get the netting up. Hopefully it won't take something that severe on the ice.

These are typical Don Cherry and Sean Avery-isms. Somehow the permanent safety of someones face is not very important anymore, at least to people like these two.

get rid of instigator and stop turning this sport into gentlemen afternoon tea, and it will be much safer.

a lot of head attacks nowadays are done mainly becaeuse of lack of mutual respect and stupid

rules that allow cheap shoters like Ruutu or Nieminen to escape wth their craft.

mandatory visors are typical Bettman-style: taming effects rather than healing sources :(

I'm not saying it's bad, but they'd better focus on real solutions not cheap alternatives

I don't think they should be mandatory but I wear one. I used to wear a full cage but I hated the visibility issue.

I still have a problem with my visor fogging up, but I wear it because I really don't want to get hit in the eye with a puck like Stevie did.

I wouldn't wear a visor, but I would wear a mouth guard.

I hate wearing mouth guards, but they could do wonders. I would wear a visor too. I've played with and without a visor, and I prefer without for vision purposes, but I have never played with a high quality, expensive visor, and that would be pretty clear.
