I think I know at least one person who sees those little red hearts. The Wings could have won that 1998 cup with a cardboard cutout of a goalie in net. Better yet, I bet we could have won with Cheveldae in goal. That's right, I said it. Seriously though, at best Osgood is an average goalie. If we go into the playoffs this year and for some ungodly reason have to use Osgood, there is no chance in hell we win a cup. What is Babs going to say? Our goaltending really sucked tonight, what moron brought Osgood back here? I think not. Ozzie could still be a great goaltender... in a beer league!

What's with the little hearts bs comments? I'm sorry that YOU have a crush on the guy, but that is not the reason I am a fan. Your post is laughable really. What's Babs suppose to say? You obviously don't know that Babcock is actually blunt in regards to his team and certain players. He's called Ozzie out a couple times for having a bad game in the past..and guess what? He thought he did pretty damn good tonight. You wanna know why? BECAUSE HE DID.

Am I the only one who doesn't totally fault Ozzie for that first goal? He clearly got a piece of it - just not quite enough. Second goal was a softie. Third goal was a deflection. Fourth goal was a beautiful feed from Kariya to Forsberg - it was going to take sheer luck to stop that one.

Apart from Holmstrom, Osgood was the best player on the ice tonight, hands down.

Ok everyone!!! Take a deep breath, because we got a piont out of this game. Our record in back to back games has been horrible, so the fact we got a point out of this one was huge. I thought we played real well, we hit like champs and I thought Chelios was awesome tonight, thats the Cheli we have been missing. I guess Floppa will fit in great with that team because everytime a Wing hit one of them they fell right to the ice, Barry Trotz ought to be proud!!!! I cnnot blame Ozzie one bit and if anything Kronwall needs to put Floppa on his ass in front of the net, not turn your damn back!!!! Ok my blood pressure is getting high again, deep breath, ok!! All in all I can't complain about the game, I hate losing but we showed some grit and I like it!!!!!

As you all can see I can't spell worth a s*** tonight, I apologize!

To win the stanley cup, your goalie has to make timely saves, Osgood did that in 98. Dont try to diminish Osgoods role in the 98 cup win. As for tonights game, the end of the first could have been a lot worse than 1-0. Throughout the whole game Osgood kept his team in a position to win against one of the best teams in the league. What more could you ask for in a goalie?

And on a side note considering his resume he is playing for peanuts. Look at colorados backup thoedore who makes 5.5 mil. and I believe is making 6 mil. next year. Be grateful we have osgood.

Exactly. He did get a piece of it but somehow it snuck under and got in.

I gotta admit that Kariya's play to Forsberg was quite awesome. He made some great moves..they pretty muched deserved to score after that.

i didint mean to start this ozzie fight but i would just like to say one last thing about it. everyone in here that keeps saying ozzie kept us in it all game and this and that does not know hockey. look at the goalie on the other end he had 40 sum saves thats keeping ur team in it. if ozzie would of had that many shots lord knows it would of been a blow out. as for the 98 cup ozzie had a few bad games but in no way could we of used just any goalie. ozzie played reayy good and made huge saves and even came back from that center ice goalie to shut dallas out the next game. all in all i love ozzie and he is and always will be my favorite player but i will not be like the rest of the ozzie lovers and kiss his ass even when he plays bad. he had some good saves in the first and then thats was really it nothing big came from him. tonight was a big game and big goalies come up with the wins in theses games. ozzie has earned his back up role and as sad as it is to me thats what he is now. he had his time to shine and keep winning cups with us and be our starter he messed that up for him self. isles let him go cuz they want to bring up rick they love him there but as for the blues they let him go cuz he could not get it done in the playoffs. 1st round v.s canucks up 3-1 in the series and end up letting them win 3 stright games. ozzie is past his prime. its sad cuz he is still young but nobody cares really about oz in the nhl. iwill miss them ozzie ozzie ozzie days for sure though.

Osgood isn't the reason the Wings lost. Period.

Subjective. One's opinion on this rides on one's opinion as to how much a goaltender is supposed to do, or on what a specific goaltender is capable of.

You think im kissing his ass because I think he kept the Wings in it? I am ALWAYS one to admit when Ozzie has a bad game or let's in a bad goal. Did I think he let in a bad one tonight? Yes. Do I think he had a bad game? Absolutely not. Btw, it doesn't matter how many shots Vokoun faced. He could make 50 saves and it wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't quality shots./chances. He rarely had to make big saves and he isn't nowhere near the reason why the Preds won the game. Look at the chances against Oz compared to the ones against the Preds then tell me which goalie played better.

You're kidding about the Blues in the playoffs right? Ozzie was not the reason they lost. I don't even know what series you were watching if that's the case. Why is it always the goaltenders fault in a playoff series? If I remember correctly Ozzie was the only one showing up in the series as their big time players *Tkachuk, Weight..etc* were not doing a damn thing along with Mac, Pronger, and Jackman all being out due to injuries. What more do you want of your goalie? A goalie can't win if his team isn't scoring. Plus Ozzie's was letting in two goals at the most per game in the playoffs. Pretty damn good if you ask me especially when his top D are out and no one is helping him. Like I said..not much he can do. It was a team collapse and lets not forget the entire team got sick with the flu during those games so that doesn't help either.

We had this game won if we can keep the puck out of our zone with a minute left. To me, putting the blame on one guy is pointless. The team wins together and loses together. Sure, Ozzie may have been shakey tonight... Yet, if our defense locks down in the last minute and doesn't even allow Kariya's shot, we win this game. We got a point, we had a very good oppurtunity to win against a great team at their place. It's not all bad!

i didint mean to start this ozzie fight but i would just like to say one last thing about it.

Hey Dustin, we are used to these things by now.

Everytime the Wings lose with Ozzie in goal, he let in soft goals (even if he didn't), he was bad on his rebound-control (even if he wasn't), he was constantly out of postion (even he wasn't) and so on and so on.

Let me say once and for all: In 1994 a 22-year old Chris Osgood was out of position in game 7 against the Shark.

Period.

Can anyone give an example of another "major" Osgood "screw-up" before the 98 playoffs? I doubt it.

Allowing 3 long goals through the 98 playoffs is every goalie's nightmare, what was the end result? Another Stanley Cup. And who did he give those three goals up to? Jeremy Roenick, Al MacInnis (the player with the hardest shot in the NHL at the time, and the Wings still won that game), and Jamie Lagenbrunner; all premier players.

I have seen Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur give up equally embarassing goals.

Ozzie's "playoff stats" from the Islanders and the Blues? Before they picked up Osgood, the Islanders were the WORST team in hockey... Osgood helped them get to the playoffs and forced seven games against CuJo and the Leafs. Now, maybe I'm confused...but how does helping the former worst team make the playoffs the very next season make a goalie "average?"

Even with the likes of Yzerman, Premeau, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Coffey, Kozlov, and Ciccarelli, it took the Wings multiple seasons to climb out of the basement and who was their goaltender: .......... Osgood.

Like any goalie, Ozzie only needs a good team in front of him that will come to play every game. If he gets hung out to dry, then somebody screwed up long before the puck ended up in the net.

Ozzie is still a great goaltender.

We lost to the NUMBER 1 TEAM in the NHL.

Shocking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Osgood IS the reason we lost this game. The Wings played damn good and to come out on the losing end can only be blamed on one person. If he was paying attention he would have saw that Kariya tip coming and cut down the angle and I would not be ripping on him right now. I could go into a whole spiel about why does Babcock play Hasek against a nothing team and Osgood verses one of the best teams in the league since that has happened more than once. But that is another thread. I am some what glad we lost, maybe Holland will push harder to make a move. We are almost good enough to beat the Predators with swiss cheese in goal. One more player should put us over. I obviously don't "love" Osgood. However, I would love to see him driving the zamboni and not in our goal. I guarantee if Osgood faced those 44 shots we would have been blown out. If he was the reason we became such a great team, why did it take Vernon to win us the first cup? He's is an below average goalie on an above average team, that is why we lost this game.

Reason we lost the game last night because there were two very good teams out there, fairly evenly matched, hits/scoring chances were roughly the same on both sides, and there were very few defensive collapses on either side. Nashville just capitalized on one more of their chances, nothing more, nothing less.

Osgood has another year left on his contract here and isn't going anywhere, sorry, but your hopes of him driving a zamboni are on hold. It probably pains you very much. If you need a hug, I'm here...

Ken Holland has been GM for quite some time now.

I really don;t think he'll make a panic-deal because we lost to the Predators.

First round exit this year and he'll be gone.

It's his choice to determine if we're good to go in terms of having a successful cup run. I really don't care about these regular season games a whole lot.

The whole nhl system is flawed in terms of successful teams not receiving enough in terms of having a great season. Eg. First round byes like in baseball and football. We need that system here.

Otherwise, we can lose to the Preds, and whomever else during the season I don't care. But come playoffs if we don't have the right guys to take us far, goodbye Holland!!!

Anyways, don't get me started, lol. It's sunday morning after all.

This would not be a panic trade. Holland has known we have holes to fill since last season. He is useless if he does not get a deal done. I don't need a hug, the Wings will however when they lose in the first round again if their current roster stays the same. It pains me that our future is wasting away in Grand Rapids while a subpar goalie pretends to be our backup. The future cannot become the present unless it is allowed to step forward.

It's not wasting away.

It's preparing itself.

You're a monday-morning coach.
