puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20070225/1007837.asp If you are a Hasek fan, you will love this piece -- it's long, but very well done. If you are determined to dislike the Dominator, you will hate every word of it -- but you also might learn something, if you're willing. This article was written by sports editorialist, Bucky Gleason, from the Buffalo News. He may know Hasek better than pretty much anyone in professional sportswriting, having covered the Sabres' every move most of the near-decade that Dom was a Sabre. "He's really changed the style and influence of what goaltenders do," Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky said. "It used to be that guy was just in the net. He changed all that. He made himself a part of a hockey club and a hockey team's success. He's a unique athlete, one of the best goaltenders to ever play the game." Dom is mellower than he was in the past, but thank goodness, hasn't lost his edge or unique approach to life and the game he loves. The vignettes on the changes in his style of play, the awesome thing he did for the kids' hockey team from Prague (oddly, not mentioned in the Detroit area news/sports outlets that Hasek arranged and paid for it), his honest appraisal of his own behavior, personal and professional... all revealing, or at least as much as you'll ever see revealed by the enigma that is still Hasek. Enjoy!
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the link to the article. I really like Hasek. I feel he's reformed himself this year to a considerable degree. He just fits in very well on the Wings now! What a great goalie and a great guy. My cousin from Buffalo still worships the guy. He thinks they'll retire his number. I think he's right. FinWing 26 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Good read! The article went on forever but it was all worth reading. Dom is such an extraordinary character that you just gotta love him. What a competitor, never accepting second best and always pushing himself to the limit. There's something for every player to look up to. With Dom, I feel so much better going into the playoffs than last year, no matter what the trade deadline brings.
