He's not really what the Wings need, but I don't mind having him on the team.
Also, I doubt it will cost anyone more than a 2nd rounder, considering Anson Carter was traded for a 5th rounder.

WXYT is set to report on "a player the Wings are chasing"....not sure if it is related.

What did they say?

What's his defensive play and skating mobility like...? or is he another lazy useless Lang type player?

His skating is not to be confused with a speedster, but he can still move out there. Defensively, he is so-so, but he won't embarass himself in his own end.

Roberts is on the other end of the spectrum in terms of laziness. Nobody works harder on the ice and nobody stays in better shape off the ice.

He's a fantastic leader and a guy who will sacrifice himself for the team in the playoffs.

God I hope that we haven't throw in the towel on useless floatsom and jetsom like Roberts! Even for draft picks guys like Roberts, Bert, , Guerrin are not what this team needs. We need tough roll player types...like the Pisanis, Torres, and Commador types that handed us our heads in the last few years!

Look up the meaning of floatsam....you may be somewhat illiterate but I am referring to other teams cast offs. Of course Roberts is not a floater, however, he is definately the prime example of a player who was overpaid at 2.25M not being needed by his team that he could not lead to the playoffs....again!

You're spelling it wrong is why, it's "flotsam". Easy misunderstanding.

Yeah, because that has nothing to do with Florida trading off their franchise goaltender or anything....Eddie the Ancient wasn't going to get them that far.

Florida's struggles has to do with Jacques Martin and his inability to motivate a team.

I have to agree with Mac here, Roberts would be a welcome addition, IMO not the be all or that we should give the farm up for him but he is a warrior-type that we lost a bit with Yzerman and Shanny. Having him on the 2nd power play unit after Homer would give goalie ulcers. lol I think he would add a bit of fire in the dressing room as well but I don't think he is heading our way anyway and if we would not give up a 1st round for Forsberg I believe that Holland is smater than to give up allot for someone who wants ot be in Ottawa or TO although once the puck drops he is a gamer.

Interesting time of year isn't it?

Exactly my point....why would we hope that a front office like Detroit's replicate the losing example set by Florida bring in Gary Roberts? They brought guys like Eddie and Roberts in for their past leadership and old day resumes....they made errors that we did not. We need young talent, hungry to displace the recent trend of our playoff woes.

Not intested in aging and slower players.

I do not believe he would have any positive impact on the team.

Some of the analysis on this board of who or what this team needs, or doesn't need, leaves me speechless.

He may be old, but he is still a hard working-gritty forward who can chip in offensivly. If the price is right, I'd take him.

Think he'l waive his NTC for them?

Do you know who the Panthers would be getting in return?

Edit: I said Leafs instead of Panthers! Here I am still thinking he was on the Leafs. Haha
