Some of the analysis on this board of who or what this team needs, or doesn't need, leaves me speechless.

That's some generous use of the word "analysis". hehe.gif

According to The Fourth Period, the trade has been finalized. All that remains is for Roberts to waive his no-trade clause

UPDATE: TFP has learned the Pittsburgh Penguins have finalized a trade with the Florida Panthers in exchange for veteran Gary Roberts. The trade is not yet completed, as Roberts must agree to waive his no-trade clause. Details to follow...

I thought Pittsburgh was looking for help on the blue line?

Still, good move for them (as long as they didn't give up the farm). Roberts will add leadership and grit for a young team going into the playoffs.

I'm not sure what there is to even think about with this one, waive that NTC! The chance to play with Crosby in the playoffs? He will never, ever have the opportunity again.

I think they needed some veteran leadership most. Aside from Reechi everyone on the Pens is still waiting for puberty.

That's probably exactly why he did it!

Noah Welch is the player the Penguins are offering...

Which would be kind of like trading Meech for Roberts, glad we didn't do it...

I said a couple weeks ago that I would be disappointed if Roberts was the Wings big acquisition, but after the way picks and prospects were bandied about... He might be pretty OK to have.

He'd have to be nuts to pass on the Pittsburgh trade, though.

What? You wouldnt trade Meech for Gary Roberts? blink.gif

The Panthers would laugh that off, i know nothing about Welch but i can guarantee he's better than Meech.
Aaron Downey tally = 4 Wins (Mclaren, PARROS, *Laperriere*, Wisniewski) - 1 L (**Boll**) - 5 Draws (Walker, Fedoruk, Davison, Shelley, O'Donnell)

(* = beatdown) (** = at the end of a shift)

Preseason prediction - Anaheim over Philadelphia in 6 (ok, well i'll settle for one right...)

Meech is actually pretty good, kind of similar to Brett Lebda.

With the Wings defensive depth I don't think it would be too bad to part with Meech but I'd rather trade a pick for Roberts...

Leafs are making a late pitch to get Roberts....

Their offer is Brendan Bell along with 2nd & 4th round picks.

That is interesting. Roberts really has all the leverage in this situation if this is a real offer.

Another Roberts update:

Gary immediately rejected the trade to the Penguins when told of it this morning. Fred Shero phoned Roberts and asked him to think about it, which Gary agreed to do. At this point, it is not known if Roberts has responded with a yay or nay to the trade.

Bump for confirmation (TSN) that Roberts has waived his NTC to join the Penguins.
