Well done Mr. Holland. "A"

Have faith. As it stands, Lilja won't be dressing. As long as he's riding seats in the press box for the playoffs, we have a chance. . . . Lebda and Kronwall are stepping in big and proving themselves to be capable hockey players in the here and now.

On this point, however, I'd have to disagree. Nothing to do with trade deadline grades, I know, but.... Last night, Kronwall was atrocious, and not much better over the last couple of weeks (brutal open-ice hits, notwithstanding). Now, don't get me wrong. I am usually one of those "Lilja is the anti-Christ" people, but last night he blocked shots, was positionally sound, and physically responsible. I have seen these "glimmers" of goodness from him before, and I have no intention of believing that it's going to last. But, I have to give him credit where it's due. As far as Kronner goes, I can't believe I am the only one who sees this.

You arent the only one homeboy...sadly it's not just Kronwall. Detroit's entire defensive corps is our most vulnerable and potentially most suspect element of the team, and I said this before the Calder and Bert trades. IMO we lost the Oilers series on the back end, not up front or in goal. If Detroit get's the boot it will be because this continues to be a unit built for the regular season.

Where in Tel Aviv? I have family in Cicar ha Medina. I've also got tons of friends in the area, of course--lucky bastard. I'd love to get back sometime, but $$$$ for now.

I see you missed Lilja's clumsy-ass turnover directly in front of the our net, plus his idiotic play near the end of the game that left our zone wide open (and led to Hamilton's goal) plus his frequent mismanaging of the puck. The guy just can't puckhandle, nor can he indeed pass very well, and he has terrible situational intelligence. He was the big hole in our defense last playoff year. I will admit that he can block shots well, but his drawback far outweigh his benefits IMO.

No...you are not...but I am still giving him benefit of the doubt as he has only played like 100+/- games so far in the NHL and is basically what could be considered about halfway through his second year...I am not quite as bad a Lilja basher as many around here, although I have seen flashes of ineptitude by him, he is not as bad as many would have us believe. I do think he is an average D-man at best and by playing with Nick, Chris and the rest that makes him look even worse than he really is. I think he is a solid 4-5 D-man on many if not most teams. I WOULD like to see him use his size a little more on the 'protection' side of things but he has clearly dempnstrated that it is not his nature nor his game to do so...I dont know very much abot him before he came to Detroit...was he ever, and I hate to use this term with him but I couldnt think of a better one, a 'tough guy'...term used very liberally in this case?

As far as I remember, Lilja left Pisani and Hemsky open in front of the net in game 6. 2 goals. He should have received a whipping, at least.

I strongly disagree. There's a difference between not being soft and being gritty. Being gritty is a style of play, it's different from not allowing yourself to be intimidated.

I didn't say they're soft, but they're NOT gritty.

I agree. There are more options in the world than being soft and being gritty. There is an in-between.

Those players aren't soft, but they aren't exactly gritty either. If they were, we wouldn't have gotten Bertuzzi.

No, I didn't miss it. (I didn't miss all the sloppy play by Schneider in his own end either  ) You are absolutely right about all Lilja's faults, I would never disagree. And, I absolutely would not want to go into the playoffs with him as a top 6 defenseman. Perish the thought. I was just making a comparison to the fact that Kronwall, who is supposed to be everyone's "Golden Boy", was awful, and fortunate his mistakes weren't more costly.l
