Chelios may be a lot of things, but cowardly isn't one of them.

Maybe you forgot about him mouthing off to Laraque after a play in last year's playoffs, and them falling on the ice like a baby before Georges even toucjed him later in the game.

Maybe you forgot about Chelios mouthing off to anyone who would listen until Probert showed up to get him to shut his mouth - he should have known that was coming - what does Cheli do? He grabs Probie's sleeves like a coward and waits for the linesmen to rescure him. This is after Probie got beat up by Grimson in the same game mind you, so he wasn't even fresh.

Oddly enough Cheli had no problem dropping them with tough guys like Yzerman and Selanne when they didn't want to go though. Hmmmm.

I have no problem with mouthy players who are willing to defend their cocky selves. Tootoo, Avery, Lapperiere, thouse guys are small and mouthy and tough. Guys like Maltby and Chelios are mouthy cowards, I have no use for their kind.

I recall a Tie doimi interview where Tie was asked if he ever felt sorry for anyone on the ice..his answer was that Chris Chelios was the only guy he ever pittied so much that he had to hold back.

ah okay. if you form your opinions based on what Tie Domi says, then I really have no use for you.

Sorry, I couldn't recall any other comments regarding his strength or bravery from any other opponents who spent 17 years in the league playing against him.

There's a difference between being cowardly and not being a great fighter. He's an agitator, but not in the league of a Laraque or Probert as a fighter. Few are. He knows this. Going after Yzerman and Selanne? Call me a throwback, but I believe in the Gordie Howe school of fighting your own battles. If Cheli has a beef with a star player, he shouldn't have to ask permission from the resident goon before acting on it.

If a guy whose alias pays tribute to Harold Snepsts says Cheli isn't cowardly, that's good enough for me. But go ahead and continue to hang your hat on Tie Domi's opinion.

The only guy you have labeled correctly into one of those two categories is Maltby.

Oh. I guess I form my opinions by actually watching him play, instead of parroting them from a guy who made his living getting punched in the head.

And I can't imagine why 6' 185 lb. Chris Chelios wouldn't want to drop the gloves with a 6'3" 245 lb. enforcer in Laraque. I'm guessing those 3 inches and 60 lbs difference might've been a factor.

Chelios isn't a great fighter, but he's been in many over the years, though they're usually with guys at least close to his own weight class. He takes his licks when he deserves them. I've seen him get his head taken off from a vicious check and get up smiling.

Like I said, Chelios is a lot of things, but cowardly isn't one of them. And I used to hate the b*stard when he played for Chicago. But I still knew he was a man playing a man's game.

So I guess the only way to be tough and not a coward is fight some of the biggest and best (probie) enforcers in the game? Fighting isn't the only way to prove your a tough hockey player and not a coward. I'd love to see some of the mouths around here go into the corner for the puck, knowing full well there about to get blasted by someone like Torres.

I have no problem with the fact that he knows he's too weak to handle himself against any legit tough guys, I take issue with the fact that he still mouths off to them and then cowers when they come calling. If you can't handle the big scary guys, be classy and don't talk sh*t to them. If you are gonna flap your gums, at least have the balls to accept the inevitable. I love Cheli's game, he was a great dman, maybe the best I've ever seen and he still is very good...but I have never liked that fact that he could never keep his mouth shut.

I wouldn't fight Gerges Laraque either, but I also won't cock off to him. If you're gonna shoot your mouth off, you should expect what's coming and deal with it, not cower behind linesmen or play "hug the big guy".

Umm, earlier you mentioned Avery and Tootoo as guys who mouth off and back it up. Sure they do, sometimes. Under certain circumstances. Have you never seen Avery turtle?

You seriously don't know what you're talking about if you think Avery is an example of a tough guy who only shoots his mouth off when he backs it up.

And Chelios is not gonna back down from a fight. But he's smart enough to know how to keep from getting his ass handed to him when he's outmatched.

I have seen Avery, TooToo and Lapperierre turn down fights (though Lappy rarely turns one down these days) - but they will at least occasionally fight the behemoths that challange them. When they do, they actually FIGHT, they don't generally just hang on for dear life hoping that the big mean man won't hurt them. You can find examples of all three of them being weasels, but they don't make a career of it in the same way that Malts and Cheli do, and I think you would probably agree that the three I mentioned are far more willing to take their medicine than Mal;ts or Cheli are.

...and your statement of "chelios ain't gonna back down from a a fight" is flat out untrue and I think you must realise that. He routinely backs down from fights.
