Wings had eyes on Calder

Interesting article. I can't believe Chicago's want for Williams really goes back this far. It looks like over the summer, Dale Tallon only wanted Williams from Detroit. Heh, they got him now.

Calder has been really good for the Wings. He has 4 points in 3 games so far, and does a lot of things that Williams didn't do. In the game yesterday, Calder did a good job distracting Budaj which took him out of position for Drapers second goal. I think he was a great pickup, and if he keeps his good play up I think the Wings should re-sign him.

Williams is playing well for the Hawks, too. A change of scenery will do you good sometimes.

I just love that Holland admitted he didn't want to part with Williams and then couldn't catapult him out of here fast enough this season hahaha

good trade in my opinion, the only game ive been able to watch was the avs red wings game this past sunday (03/04/07) and all i know is calder took on two guys to allow the puck to be passed, and eventually turn into a goal for the tying goal, even though we lost.

At that point i realized this guy was legit

This is a humerous and interesting side story to the trade. I tell you what, I think both of them going through hard times then being traded is better for them. Now they both get to move on having hopefully hit rock bottom.

Up for both of them, is the only way to go.

Better that the trade happened now rather than back in the summer.

Even though Calder would've been much better on this club the first half of the season than in Philly, it still would've been incredibly difficult to justify trading for Calder after his arbitration award.

Calder won me over right away. It's funny, but while we all debate top 6 super star kind of guys (who are out of reach with the cap issue), guys like Calder are the best possible find. I mean, he HUSTLES. I'd take 2 or 3 Calders over some top 6 guy any day. They give us depth and threats from all our lines. In no other sport does a guy who comes to play 100% stand out more. Just a great trade. Can't say enough. Lang should be caryying Calder's bags for him - since Calder is now carrying the workload on Lang's line!

I would argue that there isn't a single sport (with the possible exception of baseball) where maximum effort doesn't show.
