This has interesting implications for next season.  If they re-sign Calder (and I hope they do) and Dats, roster spots for next years team will be getting thin.  Quick look at projected line-up with the two mentioned re-signings:

Dats-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Calder-Filppula-Hudler
Cleary-Draper-Franzen
Samuelsson-Kopecky-? (Grigs, Maltby, Free Agent)

Now we can debate the composition of those lines (particularly who would center the fourth), but I have to believe all those spots would be taken, leaving at most one available on the team.  This is without considering re-signing Bert, Lang, or Maltby.  Frankly if I had a choice, that roster makeup would be ideal; it contains at least three gritty player (Calder, Frazen, and Kopecky), a ton of youth, and some experience.

All in all things look good for the Winged Wheel.

Funny story: I was dozing off in my history class about an hour ago and I don't know if it was a dream or what but I saw a flash of something saying we'd signed someone for two years. I just figured it was Pavs.

Good for Kopay. I hope he earns it. thumbup.gif

good for you.

Kopecky was a disappointment imo, not sure what he did to warrant this. Didnt play all that physical, and had 1 point.
Aaron Downey tally = 4 Wins (Mclaren, PARROS, *Laperriere*, Wisniewski) - 1 L (**Boll**) - 5 Draws (Walker, Fedoruk, Davison, Shelley, O'Donnell)

(* = beatdown)    (** = at the end of a shift)

Preseason prediction - Anaheim over Philadelphia in 6 (ok, well i'll settle for one right...)

he sold me when he was running Phenauff and pretty much leveled him, my roomate an Av's fan was even amazed because this was while we were playing like *****'s and Kopecky was hitting anything that moved, like a fair Tootoo that night
There's no I in team, but there's a U in c***, so don't be little jealous c***s

You must understand Lou's perception of physical is more like Todd Fedoruk style playing.

Great news. I hope he does make it back with Z for the playoffs. Always good to have options in case Sammy or Cleary reinjure themselves.

Are MCL injuries prone to re-aggrivation like ankle problems can be? It's amazing how crappy the knee is in terms of human joints... it's literally the worst, with the shoulder following as a close second.

Kopecky was pretty much leading the team in hits compared to his TOI before he was injured..

My future favorite player on the team if he brings that scoring touch and physical aspect to his game to the NHL level. It was really nice to see him play in GR last year and he really made me think we actually had a legit physical presence in our system that also had a great shot.

The Wings have re-signed forward Tomas Kopecky to a 2-year deal worth $900,000.

Kopecky will make $475,000 next season and $525,000 in 2008-2009.

Should say 1million I guess.
