I have this same discussion all the time at school... I argue Yzerman is the greatest EVER ( including Gretzky, lemieux and whomever else). My arguement is he had very few quality teamates the first decade of his career, and when he did get some good teamates he was converted to a defensive forward by scotty bowman.

All the guys say " no way, he's overrated, gretzky has more points. Gretzky also had superb linemates his whole career.

Another of my arguements is I've been watching Steve all my life, he is the greatest ever, curagous, determined, leadership, skill, everything.

"Then why don't sports broadcasters say he's the best" They wouldn't be alowd, if they caused this much controversy, they would be fired.

Something Non-Wings fans will never know, and Wings fans wil always live with. Yzerman is the Greatest of All -Time.No question.

Exactly. Sure, Gretzky owns all the records and glory, but if I'm correct, he never had the 'C' sewn on his sweater. Furthermore, Yzerman won the Lester Patrick Trophy for overall contribution to hockey in the United States.

That award is not on Gretzky's resume.

Sorry, but arguing that Yzerman is the greatest of all time is pretty crazy. You'd have to be a homer of mega proportions to try and make a case for that. #5 behind Howe, Lemieux, Gretzky, and Orr makes alot more sense to me!

Sorry, but arguing that Yzerman is the greatest of all time is pretty crazy. You'd have to be a homer of mega proportions to try and make a case for that. #5 behind Howe, Lemieux, Gretzky, and Orr makes alot more sense to me!

Steve's got 32 points on Mario in 600 extra games. There's a lot that goes into that, of course, but the bottom line is that no one had as much raw talent as Mario, Steve wasn't even close. There's plenty to like about both guys but in terms of offensive talent Mario was the best of the best.

He played 600 more games! Mario came pretty close to averaging 2 pts a game over his career...thats SICK. Lemieux was better than Gretzky imo.

And im certainly not knocking Yzerman before anyone throws a hissy fit...theres nothing wrong with saying he's 5th best all time!

Agreed, Mario has to be the best when it comes to pure offensive talent. Stevie has a lot of other things to his credit, many of them statistically immeasurable.

And while Yzerman is certainly one of the greatest ever players and a sure first balllot Hall of Famer, I wouldn't call him the greatest ever. At least not when Mr. Gordon Howe might hear you.

I forgot about the games factor. I think Lemieux is betetr then Gretzky too.
