Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 Sorry, but arguing that Yzerman is the greatest of all time is pretty crazy. You'd have to be a homer of mega proportions to try and make a case for that. #5 behind Howe, Lemieux, Gretzky, and Orr makes alot more sense to me!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 Steve Yzerman is the greatest Captain to ever lace em up. You dont need to argue on Steve's behalf. Anyone who knows anything about hockey respects the hell out of Steve Yzerman Great post!

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 I know Lemuix was great and all , btu Stevie ahd more points , goals , assists and cups. Steve's got 32 points on Mario in 600 extra games. There's a lot that goes into that, of course, but the bottom line is that no one had as much raw talent as Mario, Steve wasn't even close. There's plenty to like about both guys but in terms of offensive talent Mario was the best of the best.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 I know Lemuix was great and all , btu Stevie ahd more points , goals , assists and cups. He played 600 more games! Mario came pretty close to averaging 2 pts a game over his career...thats SICK. Lemieux was better than Gretzky imo. And im certainly not knocking Yzerman before anyone throws a hissy fit...theres nothing wrong with saying he's 5th best all time!

Agreed, Mario has to be the best when it comes to pure offensive talent. Stevie has a lot of other things to his credit, many of them statistically immeasurable. sibiriak 84 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 "Then why don't sports broadcasters say he's the best" They wouldn't be alowd, if they caused this much controversy, they would be fired. OK, so why didn't Don Cherry say it? Saying outrageous stuff is in his job description. And while Yzerman is certainly one of the greatest ever players and a sure first balllot Hall of Famer, I wouldn't call him the greatest ever. At least not when Mr. Gordon Howe might hear you. Hiei 192 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 He may not be the greatest, but you assemble the top 5 skaters and 1 goalie, I'll bet they name #19 the Captain. And Darren Pang was right. There is one thing you cannot defend against, and that one thing is courage.

And im certainly not knocking Yzerman before anyone throws a hissy fit...theres nothing wrong with saying he's 5th best all time! Heck I'd settle for 6th, personally. And Mario was DEFINITELY better then Wayne. I used to argue that when I was like 9 and they were both in their semi-prime-declines. I'm pretty sure my arguements were less articulate then the ones above, but I did include some pretty sweet name-calling (I'm guessing).
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Heresy! I'd put Howe and Lemieux in front of Gretzky. Lemieux was a beast. I kinda go back and forth as to who's #1 between Howe and Lemieux. As far as ability, theres no question its Mario. But the fact that Howe was more complete in that he brought a physical game makes me lean towards Gordie. But Gretzky is definitely #3 i think as well.
Guest pornstar Report post Posted March 20, 2007 lemieux was one way player if felt like playing a little defense he would and that was like swiss cheese at best.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 I forgot about the games factor. I think Lemieux is betetr then Gretzky too. Smart man Did anyone mention that man battled through CANCER too? I'd say that's some Stevie Y toughness- you gotta admit it takes a huge heart to battle the most hated of all C-words. lemieux was one way player if felt like playing a little defense he would and that was like swiss cheese at best. And a 14 year old girl could lay Wayne out with a check.

I really think Y was an able successor to Howe in Hockeytown. Howe was a masterful all-around player and Hockeytown likes their heroes to play great hockey on both ends of the ice. For me at least, I experienced Y's later years, so I remember him as the gladiator who played god-like two-way hockey and still made goalies cry.
Guest pornstar Report post Posted March 20, 2007 And Gretz wasn't yes you can say that wayne did so much on the offense side of the puck like lemieux there defense was't what people talked about,90% of the fans like scoring. Its all about balance for me.Steve had that balance.
