Um, That would be at least Cleveland and Cincinatti, and I know for sure that neither of those cities give a flying hockey puck about the NHL. Should the Islanders, Blues, Blackhawks, and Bruins lose their team, considering that they're all behind Florida, Nashville, and Atlanta for average attendance? Those aren't southern teams...but they have poor attendance. I'm so confused. I thought every team above the mason-dixon line sold out every night. That's only because they have the nerve to have affordable ticket prices, so it doesn't count, remember? Silly me. I think I'm going to start a petition for Ilitch to raise ticket prices. U of Maine has a strong hockey program and has very good attendance every season. Milwaukee, unfortunately, is too close to Chicago. They won't put a team in Milwaukee simply because there wouldn't be enough support, and if anyone is going to care about hockey, they'd drive the 1 hour trip to see the Blackhawks. It's hard to really pick a decent canadian city though, since most of the bigger ones are right next to Toronto or Ottawa. Most other citys just aren't big enough to support an NHL team. Not only does Houston have a awesome arena, they have recently surpassed Chicago as the 3rd largest city in America. Plus there is something like 7 million people living in Houston. Put it this way, the reason i'm a Wings fan is because of the amount of love Cleveland has for hockey. I did meet Gordie Howe and Gund Arena a long time ago so that was pretty cool though. Anyway, I live in Cincinnati now and not only do they not care, they don't even know about hockey. However, there are a couple of pretty solid high school teams down here. I say this because Columbus is such nothing city when you really look at it. There isn't all that much there. Plus Cleveland has a major sports team in every sport except the NHL. Columbus has the Jackets and that's it. I know the Jackets do get a decent draw fan wise, but I still think the team would serve better in Cleveland. Not to mention that the Drew Carey Show was one of my favorite shows when it was still on. It's almost impossible to find re-runs on anymore, since TBS doesn't show it as much. Still good though. Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Maine and Alaska would both be super cool to see get NHL franchises, only problem, population...I don't think either of those cities are big enough to consistently support a Pro Franchise. Anchorage has a population of 274,000 , and Portland , Maine (it's biggest city) come is in at a mere 63,000. It would be nice to see a team relocate to Canada, but unless something drastic happens I can't see that happening either. The most likely canidates for any type of relocation/expansion would probably be Kansas City, Houston, Seattle, or Portland, OR. (probably in that order too...) The arena there sucks even if it's quite big. Thing is there's enough support in Sweden for a couple NHL-size teams. My hometown regularly sells out every match - only approx 12 000 but considering the city is only 500k... EDIT: I forgot to add where in the US/Canada I'd love a team.
