Which Red Wing drives you nuts?

Schnider needs to stop playng and coach or something. I haven't seen many games this year but the ones I have seen (mostly agains chicago, st. louis, and on NBC) he has difficulty keeping up. Maybe its just me because I have always expected him to play better.

Im not a huge fan of either of our goalies either, but they are acceptable. Hopefully we win the cup this year, and Schnider and Hasek retire and we can pick up Foote and Biron

You want to replace Schneider, who admittedly is not the best defensively, but is one of the league's top offensive defensemen, with Foote, who has failed miserably since leaving Colorado and is behind Anders Eriksson on the depth chart there?

EDIT: Fixed quote

DId someone call Hudler, Rex? I must not be a big enough fan to not know that... that rules. (or did i read that wrong?)

Yeah, Hudler's nickname on these boards has become Rex, b/c during a game one night, one of the hapless announcers from the other team (i forget what team. Colorado?) called him Rex Hudler. After being joked about, the name kind of stuck. We like it :D It makes him seem bigger than he is..... :P

Lang - for his drop passes, turnovers, and lazy hooking penalties

Sammuelson - for shooting too much and his salary

Datsyuk - for not shooting enough

Zetterberg - for being injured

Holmstom - for being too streaky

Calder - for not being here longer and for his stupid soul patch

Hudler - for not being two inches taller and 20 pounds heavier

Filpulla - for not being as skilled as Hudler

Maltby - for slowing down

Draper - for not being able to buy a goal with Bill Gates' Visa

Franzen - for not being just a little faster

Cleary - for sometimes being a boring hockey player

Bertuzzi - for making it possible for Vancouver to get Luongo

Schneider - High and Wide 24-7

Chelios - his nose

Lidstrom - for his inability to clone himself

Lebda - see hudler

Kronwall - those cross ice passes and anemic offence

Lilja - his salary among other obviousness

Markov - hasn't been hitting as much lately

Osgood - for letting in terrible goals

Hasek - for letting me believe his leg could fall off at any time.

I had to laugh all the way through that. Well written.

Lang - Takes too many Lazy penalties. If he didn't, then keep him. ;)

Sammy - Lost his touch from last year and needs to find his groove back. If he shows up big in the playoffs, doubtfully, then drop him.

Lilja - I actually Like him. Great filler for when a D is hurt!

Nice post rick zombo .

Datsyuk did drive me nuts for a while when Shanny or Hull was on his line. Instead of shooting the puck, he was continually trying to pass to them. This year he's taken more shots, so he doesn't drive me nuts anymore.

Now the main thing that drives me nuts is when people here are all doom and gloom when we lose a game.

Easily the thing that annoys me most, especially when the Wings are on a 5-6 game win streak and then lose one. Until the Wings next game, all we hear from some people is how this team has no heart or character. Nevermind those 5-6 games before the loss.

Ok ok

Lang

He may not be lazy (just really slow and blind) but he surely sucks. (loves to turn the puck over and quite on the play)

I would love to see lang go away.

Hmmm...I guess that's one way to look at it. However, I think Lang IS lazy...but he does NOT suck. But I still like him.

I don't hate ANY Red Wing. It's genetically impossible for me to hate a Red Wing.

Well, I can't speak for Jason Smith but there's a reason why Lang and Jagr have alot of turnovers. Primarily its because they handle the puck so much. Lang spends alot of time in the offensive zone with possession of the puck, and in the offensive zone defenders are trying to get the puck as badly as possible. Furthermore, guys like Lang and Jarg are so skilled that they'll do things with the puck that most players won't even think about simply due to lack of imagination and vision. I've seen Lang dipsy doodle an incoming defender and gingerly lay a pass between the guy's feet to an open winger. That's the kind of stuff that gets overlooked with Lang. People spend so much time focusing on his giveaways that they forget any play he makes that doesn't result in a goal.

I know, Lang loves the puck, which is great, but you can't deny that his lack of sure-handedness when he has possession is a source of frustration. Jagr is way better on the puck, but he gets significantly more ice time (the offense pretty much runs through him) so his high rate of giveaways is just due to volume. Lang's is more of (in)ability.

Trust me, I've seen his nice passes. You mentioned the one he made to Willy, which was sick. His nice little pass through defenders to Rex for the go ahead goal last game against Nashville was superb. But at the end of the day we're still talking about a guy who's nearly tops in the league in turnovers despite being the second line center and has only 48 points.

Ah whatever, people have a hate on for Lang that just can't be overcome. Tis their right, no matter how much I can't fathom it.

It's not that I hate the guy; I really don't. I've bestowed upon him my highest honor: he's a Pretty OK Dude. But you'd be wrong to say he's the guy who gives 100%, hustles to get back or is sure to make good decisions with the puck. That's why he drives me nuts, as opposed to hate. He can do great things, but only when he feels like it. Now that I think of it, he kinda reminds me of...

As for the hate-on with Lang...

That is a Fedorov thing. Lang was brought in to fill the offensive void left by Fedorov, and while he did admirably, he didn't bring the explosive footspeed or the defensive ability Fedorov had. THAT is why Lang is disliked...because he's not Fedorov.

Feds! I disagree, by the way. I say he's generally disliked because of the same issue Fedorov had: his apparent disinterest during game time. The issue is undoubtedly exacerbated because Bob isn't as speedy or talented as Sergei, but the base of the irritation is the same.

Now, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who hated Fedorov, despite that he didn't always give it his all because he stepped it up in the playoffs and always delivered. That doesn't mean he didn't drive fans up a wall, or that he wasn't deserving of those criticism, because he was, but at the end of the day he got the job done. And that's kind of how I feel about Lang. I bag on him a lot, and he deserves it, but we'll all hold hands and sing pretty songs when the year ends and he finally put in that honest day's work.

I dont hate any wing players either.

But I wish this guy would no longer be a wing player is all.

If you got assists for passes to the other teams leading to goals this clown would lead the leauge.

Mickey even pointed that out a few games ago.

Combine the awesome might of their power and then they will shine - and become our new #1 line : RW Sammy(ol' deadeye) C Langer(landcruiser) LW(move him up from D) Lilja(the pain train). No one could stop them. Their ineptitude would infect and confuse the other team into submission.

I honestly like all the Wings, including Lilja, who is just good enough, just often enough, to give me hope.

I do have more respect for Lilja since the fight. Still not one of my favorite players, but I think he is decent enough for what he does (being a 7th defensmen).

Probably the Wing that I really don't like very much is Kronwall. Huge disappointment this season. But again, I don't hate the guy. He's a Red Wings, and I don't hate anyone on the Wings. I do expect more from him though.

Jagr turns the puck over 1.4 times per 20 minutes. Lang turns the puck over 1.6 times per 20 minutes.

That's a difference, assuming 20 minutes per game, of one turnover every five games. Hardly noteworthy.

The skater that drives me nuts is Scheinder. He has such an incredible shot, yet he can't see to hit the net with any sort of regularity. Take a page from the Cap', it doesn't always matter how hard the shot is, but it ALWAYS matters where the shot is placed.

And in net I am going with Hasek. He needs to stay in net. Hell I think my 4 year old niece could give him a good run in skating ability!! And please stop trying to draw penalities, and just play the game.

That being said, I don't think the Wings are where they are this year without either of those two.

BTW I think the common misconception with Lang is that he is lazy. Does he always go 100% no. But the problem is he makes a lot of what he does look easy. I have been lucky enough to attend 15-20 games this year, and moreso than anyone else, even Dats, he impresses me with his calmness, ability, and puck control in traffic. Yes, Dats is more flashy, and can finish much better, but Bobby is something special with the puck. Don't forget, much like Fedorov, he shines in the playoffs.

And how often do you think each player is handling the puck per 20 minutes of ice time?

No matter. Point is, he's perhaps the most turnover prone guy in the league.
