Whenever player comparisons come up there is always the 'different era issue', the sense that the way the game is played from year to year, will effect a players stats as to prevent meaningful comparison. This seems a pretty easy statistical problem to solve, as adjustments for things like league wide scoring are pretty simple.

I have wanted to run some of these numbers for a while, but all I can find online in terms of stats data would need to be recorded by hand into excel. Does anyone know of a downloadable hockey stat DB as an excel or other user editable product? If so, where?

Thanks

No idea about a downloadable stat DB but Hockeydb.com is the place to go and find them.

yeah, HockeyDB is awsome.

I found this, but I've never used it, so I don't know if it's any good for what you want to do with it. It is only through 2004 though.

If you want you're own downloadable DB, you'll have to create one from HockeyDB I am guessing and then constantly update each game. Too much of a hassle for anyone to do but I'm sure it isn't all that hard if you know C++ though you could just use Excel for it.
