How about tossing Holland a small bone right now?

What makes Burke so special? He has never had true success as a GM, EVER.

In fact, he should be more heavily scrutinized, considering his pre-cap comments about how his team would win the Cup every year if the financial playing field were level, and the fact that a large number of people agreed with him on this subject.

Except now he has assembled a pretty solid team. Best team he's ever had. If they don't steamroll to the Cup, how does Burke look?

People on here talk about firing Holland if the Wings go out in the first two rounds this year. When has Burke EVER had a team win two rounds?

EDIT: Not to mention Burkle's total inability to upgrade his team at the deadline--twice getting outdone by Holland, who gave up nearly nothing for either Bertuzzi or Calder.

Exactly. Burkes big deadline move was giving up a potential future #1 goaltender in Mike Wall for Brad May. Now, 15 years ago this would have been a good trade, but Brad May sucks now!

You're right, May does suck now. Even more confusing is why the need to acquire May?

Parros

ODonnell

Thornton

Moen

They've got at least 8 guys on their roster who can drop the gloves so why bring in an old dog like May? He isn't very effective any more as a heavyweight (which he was always pushing anyway as he was a light heavyweight at best), he doesn't add any offense, can't play on special teams, is a bad defender, etc......

Of all the moves on deadline day I thought the May move was the oddest one.

He's had some gambles that have paid off well so far. Hasek and Bertuzzi specifically.

Now that I've said something nice about him, I still think he's overrated, unless winning President's Cups is the goal. He's keeping the seat warm for Yzerman.

Yzerman won't be GM anytime soon.

When Holland leaves in a few years, Jim Nill will take the helm.

Hey Eva, you're good with tracking info down. Do you know where to find a list of all 30 current GM's and how many Cups they've won as GM?

I know Holland has 2 even though nobody gives him credit for the 98 Cup

Thanks Eva, great list.

Now where is the great Brian Burke on your list?

What, no Bobby Clarke?

No Darryl Sutter either?

Its amazing to me that 1/2 the Wings fans out there loathe and detest Holland to the point of calling him one of the worst GM's in all of hockey. I'm completely baffled by those folks.

I agree mostly. But the point I'm trying to make is that Dave Lewis, Babs and the immortal Bowman all won the Prez trophy while Kenny has been the GM. 3 diffenent coaches, same GM. I know sole credit shouldn't be Kenny, but the man does seem to know what he's doing.

(edit due to forgeting Lewis infront of dave)

not only that but the whole scouting staff, North America and Europe,

the Wings have always been proactive in Euro scouting and that's helped us tremendously over the last 15 years.

p.s. regarding your avatar: Go Arsenal :D

you have to put it into a perspective. and that would be that Burke was most likely

to cook another trade involving some of his toughness for .... . it didn't go through

for some reason, but Burke was IMHO buying May for some other reason than just

adding muscle

having said that - Burke is a good GM. he works to improve his team every way he

can. he did not have the ultimate success, but this may change soon. his Duckies

are capable of making it this year

You're baffled? Who knows how many posters here are 13-17 years old and know f***-all about hockey.. with a site this large, I'm not baffled in the least. It does, however, take a certain degree of patience to ignore all the ignoramouses here. :P
