Stu in Israel 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Does the Lady Byng Trophy automatically go to the player with the lowest penalty totals, or are there other factors? Here's Pierre Marc-Bouchard's figures of GP 80, G 19, A37 PIM 14 Here's Pavel Datsyuk's figures GP 77, G27, A59 PIM
Pskov Wings Fan 71 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I think offensive production (number of point) also important. Martin St. Louis would be my favorite for Lady Bing (101 pts, 28 pim) with Dats close behind.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 It's the Art Ross Light. Lots of points, few PIMs. There is no specific formula for how it's chosen.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 As discussed, there is no automatic winner like the Art Ross, but it is basically based on having a lot of points with low penalty minutes. The definition is something like sportsmanship + high level of play.

i_like_cheese_2001 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Does the Lady Byng Trophy automatically go to the player with the lowest penalty totals, or are there other factors? No, it's not automatic-it's voted on, but I'm too lazy to look up who votes, so I'm going to assume/guess coaches and GM's.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Kyle Wellwood is going to own the Lady Byng very soon. He's got 0 PIM in 46 games this year. Had he not been hurt for so long, he'd be the winner. Tomas Kaberle has 20 PIM, he should be nominated.

Had he not been hurt for so long, he'd be the winner. Tomas Kaberle has 20 PIM, he should be nominated. Wellwood was on pace for 71 points. Not sure if that would have been enough. Enough to maybe be a finalist. But not the winner. Kabelre was on pace for about 63 points if he had played all 82 games. Not sure about those point totals either. edit: St. Louis, datsyuk and Huselius look like the finalists to me. Edited April 5, 2007 by rick zombo

I don't know if he was going to win it this year, but his numbers should go up in the coming years, so he should be winning it in the near future. He's taken 7 penalties in his NHL career. You do have to factor in that Kaberle is a defenceman (so his point totals will be lower) & plays close to 30 minutes a game. Pretty impressive to only end up with 10 penalties all year. I don't know if he should win, but he should be nominated.

And maybe Kaberle will be a finalist this year. The League has to throw the Leafs some sort of bone
