HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) They clinch the conference and division. The Ducks just lost in a shootout to the Sharks, they now have 107 points with 2 games left meaning at the most they can get 111. What's also interesting is if the Flames win tomorrow, the Avs are out, and Calgary clinches a playoff spot. If the Wild win or at least get one point then it's official that it will be Wings/Flames first round. Just thought I'd point it all out. They are all 'if' situations, but it's looking more like it'll be all official tomorrow. Edited April 5, 2007 by hockeycrazy3033
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Not too sound cocky, but as far as I'm concearned we already clinched both, Sorry Chi-town. I've also overcome my fear of Calgary in the first round, rather play the Wild but I don't see any other way around it so I might as well enjoy the final games and root the hell out of every passing second. The President's trophy is our next goal.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 I agree. Flames don't scare me at all. I'm so sick of everyone underestimating the Wings. Maybe them going out and beating the Flames will shut everyone up.

Maybe them going out and beating the Flames will shut everyone up. Hmmm the Flames sure scare me! Kiprusoff has won 6 of his last 7 games, and you know he'll elevate his game in the playoffs. Our games against Calgary this season: 3-2, 1-4, 7-4, 1-2.

Our games against Calgary this season: 3-2, 1-4, 7-4, 1-2. Hasek is pretty darn good too. If it is going to be the Wings and Flames first round it's all going to come down to scoring. *I know that it's quite obvious because you need to score to win but you know what I mean!* Obviously the Wings are MUCH more talented/skilled up front than the Flames, but come playoff time they have to show it and step it up. But really, im not scared of them. They don't even phase me actually. lol and I don't know why that is. Back in '04 I was scared of them, and last year I was scared of the Oilers. This time around for some odd reason I don't get that effect from any team. Edited April 5, 2007 by hockeycrazy3033
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 You know what's funny is that the Flames team this year is a lot different statistically than they were 3 years ago. If you look at GF and GA Calgary has actually made a 180 turn.

Maybe them going out and beating the Flames will shut everyone up. That's what I hope for, but I keep doubting them in my head. I tick off the Edmonton flop last year, and their weird losses to bad teams this year, with the fight that Calgary takes to them, and only the Edmonton thing can be irrelevant. Their record with Calgary and consistency of dropping games and dropping their effort? They bug me. I'd be very happy if they played Calgary and beat them in a series - in fact, I'd feel much more confident in their playoff hopes -then- than if they beat the Avs or Wild and moved on to the next round. Why? We all know why. They'd have proved their capability to rise to a challenge and remove the tack in their side. But we don't know if they will do that. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 The thing that pisses me off about the playoffs in recent years is that teams seem to have mastered how to play Detroit. I mean, when we think about it, the last 3 playoff exits, we didn't exactly push the much lower seed to very much of a fight

I think they've finally learned their lesson and won't be pushed around anymore. Adding Markov, Bert, Calder, Flip, Hudler, etc.. makes a huge difference as well. I love that more than half the team compared to years past have never won the Cup. It makes them hungry and WANT to win. Flip-check 6 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) You keep doubting the Wings, or you keep doubting the Flames so you won't be scared of facing them? The Wings. Calgary didn't have a flop to Edmonton last year. I was kinda loose with my use of "they" though, sorry about that! drwscc 212 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 I think the Flames matchup will be good for us this year. I'm glad everyone is scared of the Flames, because you know the team is thinking hard about them too. I think the problem with the past couple of seasons is that we came into the 1st round taking the victory over the 8th seed for granted. I still remember last year: "Edmonton's a joke. LOLoson has nothing. Wings in 4. Maybe we'll be nice, and win in 5" Noone was taking Edmonton seriously. I think it's good that we have a legitimate opponent this year that the team recognizes as a legitimate opponent, and not a pushover. Hopefully we'll come out ready for the 1st round this year. GuloGulo 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Season series for Wins: Preds 6-2. Stars, Wild 3-1. Flames, Ducks, 2-2. Nucks, Sharks 1-3. The Flames are pretty much an even match. It is what it is. I'm not convinced the Gaborik-enhanced Wild are significantly easier to beat.
poxer 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Nucks and Sharks are the only teams that scare me in the playoffs. I said that around NHL All Star game because those two teams are great. I'd rather play the Av's in the first round but if it is the Flames then I am fine with it.
Covenant 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Ahh.. the Flames. I guess defensively they've fallen off quite a bit, but I believe they've actually outscored the Wings goal-wise by quite a wide margin. Oh well, here's hoping that our series doesn't start til the 12th, next Thursday-- give Mr. Zetterberg another day to recover. Playing in that Saddledome is a ***** though. Kipper is outstanding yes, but earlier in the year when I had the CenterIce package I saw some glaringly poor games from him, maybe he's got more chinks in the armor than years past. No matter.. I have a feeling that our goaltender could be a HUGE factor in the playoffs. How come nobody brings that up?
Offsides 21 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Cool! I'm excited for the game then (as these games aren't the greatest) I don't care who we play in Round 1 as long as we play well I think we will win!
