So I'm filling out a playoff bracket...

Recommended Posts

And heres what I have so far:

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Detroit vs Calgary [detroit in 6]

(Detroit just has way too much to prove this year, and they have a stronger team with more leadership than in the past)

Anaheim vs Minnesota [Anaheim in 5]

(Minnesota can't compete against Anaheim if they both bring their A game)

Vancouver vs Dallas [Vancouver in 5]

(Luongo is going to be the X-factor)

Nashville vs San Hose [Nashville in 5]

(Although San Hose is good, Nashville has 3 solid lines and will wear San Hose down)

Detroit vs Nashville [Detroit in 6]

(during the regular season Detroit proved they can bring it to the Predators in a playoff type atmosphere, plus we'll have home ice advantage)

Anaheim vs Vancouver [Vancouver in 7]

(It'll be close but Luongo will stand on his head again)

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Buffalo vs Islanders [buffalo in 4]

(no competition)

New Jersey vs Tampa Bay [New Jersey in 5]

(New Jersey is more solid than Tampa Bay, and has spectacular defense

Rangers vs Atlanta [Atlanta in 7]

(I think luck has alot to do with the Rangers being in the playoffs in the first place)

Ottawa vs Pittsburgh [Ottawa in 4]

(just because I hate Crosby)

Buffalo vs Ottawa [Ottawa in 5]

(Ottawa has alot to prove, especially after being eliminated by Buffalo last year. It'll be close, but Ottawa will strike with an unbeatable fury)

New Jersey vs Atlanta [Atlanta in 7]

(Devils have great D while Atlanta has great offense, and I think it'll be very tight, but Atlanta will wear the Devils down)

Ottawa vs Atlanta [Ottawa in 6]

(Ottawa will have alot of spark after beating Buffalo and will take that into the next round against the Thrashers)

Anyway, I just want your input (suggestions, recommendations, etc) and perhaps if anyone else wants to put up brackets this can be a comparison thread.

I personally guarantee that the Minnesota/Anaheim series will not be over in five games.

Wild in seven.

We have more leadership this year? I'm not sure I agree with that.

Furthermore, I would pick the Devils over Atlanta. Atlanta is a young team with no playoff experience. The Devils are experienced and can handle the pressure. And, defense wins championships more often than not.

I'm on your wave....

Detroit v Vancouver for the West. (I'd hate to see it but Van in 6 - been warning about these guys all year!)

Ottawa v Buffalo for the East (toss up)

I could really see an all Canadian match up in the works...If Luongo does hand stands.....if not then Detroit over whoever survives Buff v Ottawa.

As above. More leadership? Well, I agree we have lots to prove, and perhaps are better prepared. But no Steve, No Shanny. We still have some big names, with experience, but the biggest playoff heart is up in the rafters now.

its not finished because I'm not finished. I really have no clue how a Detroit Vancouver third round will turn out.

Detroit will have alot of fire under them, especially after beating Nashville (if it turns out how I plan it), but I'm predicting Luongo being the main reason the Canucks get as far as they do. Thats bound to get into the heads of the wings...

As for the leadership comment- Sure we don't have Yzerman and Shanahan, but Yzerman was injured last year and couldn't do what he usually does in the post season. Lidstrom is captain now and has a lot to prove to everyone that he can get the team past the first round. Datsyuk has a greater responsibility (espeically after the signing) and Zetterberg is growing into a leader. I guess what I meant to say by more leadership is that our younger "next generation" players are finally getting what it takes.

So can we make this like the official playoff prediction thread? I know we have seperate prediction threads for some individual series', but i dont see one for the entire playoffs.

WEST

(8)Flames over (1)Wings in 6

(2)Ducks over (7)Wild in 5

(3)Canucks over (6)Stars in 7

(5)Sharks over (4)Preds in 6

(2)Ducks over Flames(8) in 5

(5)Sharks over (3)Canucks in 5

(2)Ducks over (5) Sharks in 7

EAST

(1)Sabres over Islanders (8) in 4

(2)Devils over (7) Lightning in 7

(6)Rangers over (3) Thrashers in 6

(5)Penguins over (4)Senators in 6

(1)Sabres over (6)Rangers in 4

(5)Penguins over (2)Devils in 7 (the one ill probably regret...)

(5)Penguins over (1)Sabres in 7

FINALS

Ducks over Penguins in 5

Ive been thinking Jersey in the Finals for months, but im pulling a flip flop. I think it may have a little to do with being mildly annoyed that they sent down Cam Janssen ;) Yeah im going out on a big limb with the Pens but what the hell, they dont have great D or goaltending, but hey if Cam Ward can get hot why not Fleury. I have them running out of gas in the Finals.

Gasp! :scared: You dare predict the Wings to lose against Calgary!? Just kidding. But I think our series will last longer than everyone predicts. Unless I'm mistaken, we split the season series with the home team always coming out victorious. Since we have home ice advantage I can only predict that we'll win in 7. But those back to back games have been an issue for us all season so we'll see. Also depends on which lasts longer, Iginla's knee, or Zetterberg's back. :sly:

'Tis a fool who makes predictions and disregards the Curse of the Second Seed. One of New Jersey and Anaheim will be leaving these playoffs very disappointed at the end of this year's quarterfinals.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bolts knocked off NJ. NJ's new coach, NJ's injuries, and TB's top line...I'm taking the Bolts in 6.

Do the playoffs reseed after each round? I'm seeing different answers from the brackets and i just didn't pay as much attention in previous years after the wings got eliminated.

What do you mean reseed?

Say the Wings advance to the second round. Them being the #1 they'll face the lowest seeded team left for round 2 and so. So if the top 4 seed teams make it. Wings will face #4, and then the #2 team will face the #3 team. Highest ranked team *from the season* faces the lowest ranked that's still in it..and so on..

I think that is what you meant?
