Your pick for the Stanley Cup

Hey guys, new member here. I've never lived in Detroit but I've been a Wings fan since I started watching hockey 14 years ago. It's obviously a little biased asking this Q in a red wings forum, but I really do believe this team has what it takes to go all the way this year (despite the 'tightness' of the Western conference)...plus I wanted to get my predictions for the playoffs in somewhere, and that predictions thread is only asking for round 1 matchups. :P

Without further babble, I see it happening as follows:

Western Conference:

Detroit over Calgary 4-2

Anaheim over Minnesota 4-3

Vancouver over Dallas 4-3

San Jose over Nashville 4-1

Detroit over San Jose 4-3

Anaheim over Vancouver 4-3

WCF: Detoit over Anaheim 4-2

Eastern Conference:

Buffalo over New York Islanders 4-0

New Jersey over Tampa Bay 4-2

New York Rangers over Atlanta 4-3

Ottawa over Pittsburgh 4-3

Buffalo over New York Rangers 4-2

New Jersey over Ottawa 4-3

ECF: New Jersey over Buffalo 4-3

SCF: Detroit over New Jersey 4-2 for the Stanley Cup

One injury may, of course, change everything...also, Jersey vs Buffalo is wishful thinking, if you know what I mean. :D

Thoughts/Reasoning: the Wings have the best team out there, imo, if they are at full strength and can easily go all the way. I admit though that they have massive injury problems with Bertuzzi and Zetterberg out/playing injured, and so I give Calgary a 45% chance to bounce them in the first round.

I'm basing my predictions on the fact that we'll see a healthy Wings team from round 2 onwards, and at that point they have the best chance of going all the way out of any team, though nowadays pretty much any team can win the Cup.

Welcome to the boards. You should know that you joined at a time when most of us are on an emotional rollercoaster also known as the playoffs. In general, this is a good group of knowledgable and nice fans. But we're hockey fans...so we're weird. I'm sure you understand.

Oh...and to answer your questions...Wings...duh. :P

If I pick the Wings, they won't win. So I'll go with the Maple Leafs.

If your going with the leafs, ill go with the Oilers.

But seriously, i'll go for Detroit or Anaheim out of the West and Buffalo or Ottawa from the east.

LETS GO BLACKHAWKS!

The Hawks aren't going anywhere. They've got their hands full with the Coyotes. That series is going to take a lot out of them. They might survive it, but what do you think is going to happen when they meet up with the Oil? Get out the golf clubs.

 I hope the Hawks don't run up the score and piss Wayne off.

HenrikRules40, thanks for the kind words and welcoming. I hope your boy can step it up for us, with Bert sitting out. I know he may be injured, but he was a key performer in past playoffs (one of the few Wings that showed up, imo) and we will need him against Cowtown.

Everyone else, thanks for the replies.

Lazerbeam, good looking picks, and I love the sig. :D

That's stacked. Buffalo's taking the Cup.

I'd love to be optimistic, but I dont see Detroit beating out Buffalo...

Hockey is such a crap-shoot these days. Who knows. The Wings could lose in the first round, or they could go all the way. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I like your pick I really do and I hope it comes true but it was very rare you see the 2 tops seeds of each conference face off in the finals. Last tiem that happened was in '01 when the Avs beat the Devils in Game 7 of the finals and #77 retired into hockey immortality! That was one of my favorite finals to watch ever, I was only cheering for the Avs for Ray.
