Playoffs so far

It was interesting to note the way certain teams approached their first games last night.

Anaheim more or less played 3 line hockey with the forwards and the 3rd D pairing got

17 mins between them. The Ducks 4th line of the Parros, may and rookie Hartigan got just

over 12 mins playing time. I know the Ducks have a few injuries but to have May and Parros

on the roster was surprising. Maybe the felt that both would be needed if the Wild's Boogaard

kicked off. Again the Boogeyman saw limited ice for the Wild and was a full 5mins behind the

next least used player. Pittsburg carried Laraque and to a certain extent Ruutu on their roster

but both had little effect on a rampant Sen's side. Ottawa rolled 4 lines throughout while the Pens

had little option but to go with mainly 3 after going behind early on. It will be interesting to see if

the teams tonight feel they need to carry some sort of tough guy or if Scotty's old methods and

theory that you need 4 line hockey to do well.

What does Chris Osgood have to do with a thread like this?

Anyways, with the enforcer thing...there's always room for physical play, especially in the playoffs. I didn't get to see all of game 1 tonight but there were some pretty solid hits and physical muckity muck action after whistles and such from both the Wings and the Flames.

Whether enforcers can make a difference in the playoffs with purely physical play is subjective, but in my honest opinion, unless they play more than 3-5 minutes a game, I don't think enforcing (in that sense at least) will make a difference, because you aren't going to see players drop the gloves in the playoffs, unless a game is out of hand on the scoreboard or all but settled.
