wingsfan40 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=204003&hubname=nhl The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed their leading scorer to a US$10.65-million, three-year contract on Friday. Whitney would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1. ''Ray's leadership on and off the ice is important to our success in the future,'' said Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford. ''He has the dedication and desire to win that a team needs, and he makes the players around him better.'' Whitney led Carolina with a career-high 83 points this season. He tied for 21st in league scoring. The native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., was part of Carolina's Stanley Cup-winning team last spring. The 15-year NHL veteran has 254 goals and 673 points in 844 regular-season games with San Jose, Edmonton, Florida, Columbus, Detroit and Carolina. Just some information for any of you that were a fan when he played for Detroit. I think 10.65 mill is pretty reasonable for what he can bring to a hockey game....what do you think. I think 10.65 mill is pretty reasonable for what he can bring to a hockey game....what do you think. I think its a great deal. Think about it, they got an 80 point player for 3 mil per year. We're paying lang almost 4 for 1/2 that production. No offense to Lang though as he's sort of in the same position Whit was in when he was here. People hated Whit but I watched him in Columbus and when utilized like the Canes did, he is a great offensive player. He didn't get a fair shake here because we were pretty loaded. No fault of his imo. Good player, good signing. Ray's getting older and he got himself a nice contract with some term to it so win win for everybody.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 It's not his fault he was an ineffective player here. He was never given a chance. Good signing by the Hurricanes. Whitney is a great player, and had a very good season this year.
slapshot26 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2007 I wonder how he would have turned out in Detroit if he was given the chance. He kind of reminds me of Hudler with the similar playing style
