Offsides 21 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 The atmosphere at the Joe was crazy today. I got to talk to a few very nice Flames fans...and rib them a bit...it was fun, but all nice, no bitterness...I don't think. I always feel bad for people who travel so far just for their team to lose (as it's happened to me a number of times) Also, I agree. I don't like it when people run players who came back from an injury...or hit to intentionally injure. Unfortunately I saw a lot of that in game one at Zetterberg so I don't have a ton of sympathy right now. I know when Bert comes back it'll be the same for him. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 If the Wings win a game in Calgary, this series is over. Tuesday is the Flames' Gettysburg - It's going to be an intense game. Never say never. 3-1 series lead isn't insurmountable. I remember someone interviewing Steve the day before Game 4 of the '97 SCFs, and you'd never know he was on the verge on winning a championship. All business, he knew there was still work to do, took nothing for granted. That's how you gotta play it.
OilsWell 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Does this dude look like Playfair?? If that’s not him, I swear that looks just like him, what do you guys think?!! I'm sure now that the Flames are struggling big time, the inevitable FIRE THE COACH threads will pop up. Hmmmm maybe he embellished the truth a bit on his coaching experience!!! http://www.und.nodak.edu/org/undcheer/Hock...ey%20Team_1.jpg

(This RE: is not directly aimed at you HoH) Remember seeing Stevie with the President's Trophy held high above his head in 94? S'why it was all bidniss in 97. 2 games people.............the Wings need to win 14 more. I will say though.....Calgary looks like an actual 8th seed as of now. aloha
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Is that as fast as Draper can go... Actually Draper has usually been one of the fastest players in the league though age has kind of slowed him down, in his prime he could go step for step with Fedorov. (I know you're joking....I'm just sayin'.) Anyway, second point: I don't think there's any possible way to justify criticizing Draper for that hit. First, it was practically in slow motion. Second, Draper is 5'10", 190 and Regehr is 6'3", 225. If anyone on the Wings were to "go after" Regehr, it certainly wouldn't be Drapes. Third, if that little nudge was all it took to re-injure Regehr's knee, then he maybe shouldn't have been out there at all, and he was really just a ticking time bomb. A gamble the Flames took, and lost. Fourth, and most importantly, what's Draper supposed to do, dive out of the way of an imminent collision just because the guy's playing hurt? Give the guy leeway? I guarantee you the Flames won't miss a chance to hit Bertuzzi. If he's healthy enough to play, he's healthy enough to get hit, and if he gets hurt in the course of regular play like Regehr did, that's on the Flames for putting him out there, not the Wings. I agree that it's pretty crude to give someone extra attention on the ice and go out of your way to re-injure him. None of us liked it when Pronger was trying to do that to Stevie in 2002. But there's no way you can make the case that Draper or the Wings were trying to do that to Regehr.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Yeah, If you wanna start saying our players are gonig after your injured players then you better be willing to admit that the Flames tried cross checking Zetterberg in the back every single time he touched the puck. *Cough* Stuart *Cough*

Viperar 16 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 I didn;t say he was dity, and it wasn't a dirty hit....but it is a known fact, that Regehr was playing with a bad knee... why not hit him and see if you can knock him out of the Game Draper is not a dirty player, it was one of those freak hits....Its just he knew he was playing with a bad Knee Going after an already injured player is ridiculous oh please spare us with the bulls*** already, you always make these bogus posts, i guarantee you Z has taken more hits to his back than regehr has taken this entire series...not to mention players like iggy making v lines for Z and Dats..honestly open your eyes and suck it up that your team is playing s***ty. Zion 93 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Detroit did, as expected, very well at home. The REAL test is playing IN CALGARY. Hopefully Bertuzzi is in and Samuelsson is out.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 ....Its just he knew he was playing with a bad Knee Going after an already injured player is ridiculous Regehr wasn;t a big threat out there today anyway.... If I recall correctly Regehr was pummeling on Hudler (the smallest guy on the ice) after Huds was knocked over and was flat on his back. And Kris kinda backed up into him as he was skating forward- it was really an awkward play, not even intending to play the body
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 When was the Joe known as one of the loudest/most intimidating buildings? I know we have had a great team and the atmosphere is always fun, but our fans have never been the rowdy or loud types you'll see in Edmonton or Calgary. I just recently read an article somwhere of the top 5 loudest most intimidating buildings in the playoffs and the Wings were the only american team on the list. Offsides 21 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 The Joe is great and fun...loud compared to A LOT of the arenas that I've been to (in part, I think, because it's smaller). Lately we've been a bit lax in the regular season, but nothing beats the playoffs. I think Red Wing fans are more respectful of the play which is why they aren't seen as loud...and the mics definitely do NOT pick up the real sound.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Also, I'm a little surprised by the Red Wings Fans at the Joe. It just seems they aren't as loud as I expected. Maybe its the CBC feed and it just looks like that, but how is the atmosphere at the Joe?? Also they were mentioning that tickets to game 1 weren't even sold out, is that true?? The Joe, for whatever reason, has hideous acoustics when it comes to broadcast. It's not a very quiet place during the postseason. Seats to game 1 were indeed open, ending our 400+ game sellout streak. This is most likely a symptom of the severely depressed automobile economy in the area and in the state as a whole. And the reffing needs to be more consistant... which it has yet to be in any series I have watched. Is that as fast as Draper can go... Please don't start trying to blame the refs. NBC did--as almost always--a great job of showing ALL the penalties CLOSE UP. There was never any ambiguity whatsoever in the minds of the sportscasters as to whether the Flames` penalties in this game were indeed called correctly. Draper, FYI, is one of the faster skaters in the league. and what wrong with being Postive and optimistic....and justifying my teams play As many will attest, this forum has a great intolerance toward positivity and optimism. Draper did not go for Regehr's knee. Had that been his intention, he might have actually tried to hit Regehr hard. You know this. Meanwhile, Iggy and co. are almost certainly gunning for Zetterberg's back.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 I think what frustrates me is the amount of talent on the Flames team and the fact we are playing like crap. Makes me wanna SCREAM!!! I think it more has to do with how good the Red Wings are playing. Calgary can't generate anything because the Wings are all over them.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 I think it more has to do with how good the Red Wings are playing. Calgary can't generate anything because the Wings are all over them. That's exactly it. I think Clement made a really good comment about that earlier in the game. I forgot how he said it? Something about the Wings being the Flames problem? I don't know but it was funny and true.
