rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) Detroit have to give up more depending on how high Bert finishes on the team for playoff points right. And how many games he plays right? Does anyone think the Wings are sitting him to curb these stats, so they'll end up giving up less in the trade? Seems far-fetched. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 Bert was mainly brought in to address the physical need for the Wings. If their going to sit him for draft picks, that seems like a very strange idea. Then again, Babcock and Holland are probably impressed with the way the rest of the Wings are playing physical, so maybe they are sitting him to curb the stats. I'm sure Holland doesn't want to give up like 4 or 5 draft picks or how many ever were put in that deal. Who only knows what's going on. If he does play again in the playoffs, then it wouldn't have been for that reason. Which it would really seem weird if it was.
drwscc 212 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 I really think that after Game 1, where they sat him just to be safe, he's sitting now for more "If it aint broke, don't 'fix' it" reason. I figure he'll be out tonight, and if we lose, we'll see him in Game 4. If we win, he'll continue to sit.

He is a game changer... he automatically causes Calgary to have to change their gameplan a bit. Like Babcock said the other day, "We didn't bring him in here to sit on the bench." Too Conspiracy Theory-ish for me...
Sleight 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) No way they sit him tonight if he can play. Tonight's game has the ability to change the complexion of the entire series. If the Wings win they all but put the series away, if they lose suddenly the are looking at only a 1 game lead with one more in Calgary on Thursday. Not to mention it's very important for the Wings to finish the series early if they can, as to not wear out some of the vets like Cheli and Hasek and lets guys like Zetts rest (he says he's better, but he has to still be sore). Plus the more games you play the more chance you have of other injuries happening. Edited April 17, 2007 by Sleight

Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) ^^ He's a game-time decision for game 3. (There's a pinned thread at the top of the thread list.) I don't think they're purposely sitting him for the draft picks, but it's gotta be in the back of their minds. Since the team is playing well, they can afford to sit him in hopes that they don't have to give up as much. I'm sure if all the picks were guaranteed... they'd probably lean towards playing him rather than not. Edited April 17, 2007 by Jamaica Jon

arin 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2007 hahaha There's NO way Babcock is sitting Bert because we're winning and "if it aint broke dont fix it"... Jesus... Some of you people. Does that mean it's OK that Sammy & Lang suck balls and should stay in the lineup? We won the first two games - SO THEY MUST BE GOOD!!

Nah, its not a bad idea but the Wings have always found gems late in the draft. Plus in all honesty, we're pretty good with our youth, so I don't see the Wings being picky about draft picks. I highly doubt they're doing anything to curb the stats. Also, I believe Bert will likely be back next year, which also warrants a draft pick if you didn't know, and I don't think the Wings will hesitate in offering him something. Guys with his size and skill don't come around very often.
