Bertuzzi

I agree with everyone saying leave him in.... A lot of you guys want o pull the plug on him, for this series at least, because he hasnt been producing yet... instead just throwing the body around some... If your thinking hes not producing causes hes still hurt... then what do you do about zeta... he hasnt produced anything since he came back from injury... should we pull the plug on him too.... no way... you guys wait an see... if we go deep into these playoffs it will be because of the help of bertuzzi... he will become a game changing player... but he has to get the wheels moving again and thats not going to happen if you keep him off the ice...

If Bert wasn't in the line up, the booing would probably have fallen on Chelios.

I said before the series started that he would be a non-factor. Both with his offensive capabilities and his physical play. With that said I don't see why you guys would take him out of the lineup. He's gotten some serious rust on him, which I doubt he'll work off unless Detroit has a major run. Even then I have my doubts. I feel sorry Hudler that he is sitting for guy who isn't doing anything on the ice. But I think Bertuzzi is a better fill in.

Realistically Bertuzzi can only get better (I still have doubts), so unless he starts costing your team games, only then would it make sense to make him watch from the press box.

I'm glad this conversation has come up and that it has remained civil. I've kept quiet because I'm sure people on LGW won't like my opinion on the matter, but reading these posts have shown that this is an actual conversation and not flame-up...

First of all, I'll be the first to admit I didn't like the idea of acquiring Bertuzzi to begin with. Having said that, he wasn't acquired to sit on the bench - that's a given. But to say that he's been disappointing in terms of recovery/re-injury is an understatement. How effective is he if his physical play keeps him out of the lineup? Let's not forget how he got this latest concussion - running Chris Osgood into the parking lot.

Next, if it ain't broke... The Wings were an overwhelming 2-0 in the series after the home games. Anyone who expected a sweep hasn't watched Calgary this year - particularly at home. They really turn up the heat (PUN!) in their own building and absolutely came to play in game 3. Would Hudler being in and Bertuzzi being out changed the outcome of that game? No. But, why tinker with the lineup when A) things are working really well for you; and B) Bertuzzi isn't exactly healthy to the point where you have to make a decision yet. Just because he was cleared to play last Friday and hadn't doesn't mean you have to rush him back into the lineup, especially when you're winning and things are working on all levels (minus Line 2).

Third, someone above me mentioned Uwe Krupp. While that might not be a fair comparison - let me mention Derian Hatcher. Big dude that was brought in to lay some body and spent the majority of his time in Detroit on IR. The difference? Hatcher played 15 games to Bertuzzi's 8. He also played in all 12 playoff games that season.

Finally, Bertuzzi hasn't looked comfortable AT ALL in his skates. He was getting tossed around in the first period of Game 3 - and spend a fair amount of time on his butt. Yes, there is a curve to getting back into the game, but if his main purpose is to Corner Smash and he's the one ending up on his kaboose, he may not be prepared to return to the lineup yet. I'll give you that he got his bearings straight and started laying some hits as the game progressed, but I wasn't at all impressed with his game on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Dan Cleary is blowing Dion Phaneuf up to the point where he can't remember his middle name. And Cleary has bled more than I knew any human could the last few games... some people are playing like their jobs depend on it, while Bertuzzi is playing like he DESERVES to be in. And I don't like players with that attitude.

Having said ALL OF THIS - I'd still have an issue with his being benched. He was acquired to be in the lineup and provide some intimidation and bruises. I'm sure we can find someone to sit down instead of Hudler - but this isn't a thread about Samuelsson, Lang, or Hudler - it's about Bertuzzi.

surely I won't be the first one to say this tonight...

Bertuzzi + liability = Liabertuzzity

NOT impressed with his performance tonight. I think he needs a couple more games to rest.

I agree put Huds back in so we can finish these Flames off

Maybe next round he can be a difference maker...

Booing affects no player negitively, if anything it just comes back to bite the fans in the ass. (see: cheli in '02 vs. Van)

The series is far from over. Not from you individualy, but I've sensed some cockiness from Flames fans and CBC alike, guess we'll just have to wait to see if it's warrented.

As far as Bert goes, if Babcocks going to play him, then play him. Top six mins., none of this fourth line crap.

I am shocked at the knee-jerk reaction on both sides. It was one game - from what I recall he did nothing out there that crippled this team. In fact, I noticed him more than I noticed half the team who all seemingly disappeared for half the game in the offensive zone. If there was one thing everyone should have noticed, it was his play coming down the boards.

The guy started from our zone, "took" the puck from Calgary and skated straight down the boards like a steam engine and pushed through a check or two into their zone to try and set up one of the few chances we had. They couldn't stop him, all while controlling the puck.

^And that is a guy with some rust on him.

We just need to stop pressing the panic button because of a loss and him falling down.

I'm not sure you're referring to my comments - but I'm far from panicking. I just wanted to point out some reasons that are cause for some concern from one fan's point of view. I think that all of the points - including him not being able to take hits in the first period - are valid.

Being up 2-1 is no time to panic, regardless of who's in and who's out, but I'd much rather have lost this second game in Calgary while being up 3-0 than have a chance at the series being even before coming home to Detroit.

The first two games looked like the Wings wanted out of that playoff funk they've been living in since '03, but game 3 looked an awful lot like the Edmonton series last season... I just don't want the mentality to drop back into the mode that it had been for a few post-seasons. If they lose tonight, there might be cause for concern given their recent performance when trying to keep up with a hungrier team.

This is a huge, huge game for the Detroit Red Wings. Here's to a great game by ALL.

I've been to a game where the booing definitely affected Bertuzzi. He made so many mistakes with the puck it was comical. But I agree that some players do feed off the negative attention. I just don't think in this case it will, but hey you never know I may be eating my words later.

In my fellow fans defense the cockiness is going both ways. Not saying from you, but some Detroit fans full heartedly expected a sweep. But as stated in another thread, those fans probably haven't watched a Calgary home game.

I'm not saying your lying, I just have a hard time believeing that these guys are that mentally weak as to where boo's do anything but pump them up.

Yeah, I hear you, I'll be the first to admit I don't care for a some of the Wings fan base. Alot are extremly fickle and greedy to a certain extent. It goes both ways, some are those that predict a sweep before the series starts, and some are such dooms dayers that they see the Wings being easily bounced before even giving them a chance to play the games. I've said all along I've had faith, and I don't want them to have an easy road to the cup, IMO it makes it more worth while when you face adversity, the best teams, and still prevail in the end. I just wish the Wings had a nationwide telecast team and station in there corner pulling for them. NBC's got there head so far up Crosby's ass they wouldn't notice another teams sweep or a game 7 win.

just wanted to remind all your naysayers... goal and assist for bert in the first 14 minutes... still wish he was out?!?!?! geesh

Not enough ; his preseason skate-around style worked in the first period but was a complete waste of space the rest of the game.As well as Lang and a certain 43 year old that's been killing us in the playoffs since 2003...

He is in my "praises" , can't you read? And I did not mention Cheli... you did.

My wanting to nail Langs girlfriend is nothing compared to your wanting of Bert.He don't look too hot with that missing tooth, though... sorry.

Exactly what I said/meant and I got roundly chastized.

Don't worry, after his Thursday performance everyone's back on the Bert-wagon.

p.s. we still lost the game

Yeah bertuzzi played good last game and hes gonna keep getting better with each game... he'll definately help us advance this round and I thought that maybe that lang line would start getting hot but babs made a lot of line juggling... and I definately agree with getting rid of sammy and putin on hudler, we dont really need his wristers during crunch time,,,, and hopefully flippula will keep gettin more ice time
