Flames Vs. Detroit Game 3

The Wings played really well last night for being on the road. It was great to see the Wings not let anything phase them..especially in the first period when the Flames were playing some desperate hockey. They definitely showed up to play, and they really played with heart and wanted to win. A couple mistakes is what cost them the loss, but that doesn't mean they didn't show up for the the game.

While I don't think the Wings had a good first period *compared to the previous two games* I liked the fact that they didn't let the crowd, or the desperation of the Flames coming out hard and flying, phase them at all. They got it together and I was happy that the period ended at 0-0 especially for a road game. I give them props.

To be honest, I thought the Flames would have come out harder than they did. I was shocked at how 'reserved' they appeared compared to their 2004 version.

The Wings still outplayed the Flames for 50 minutes of that game. And like Babcock said, they got too cute and need to get back to what worked in games 1 and 2. I hope the boys listened to that.

But it would have been really nice if the Wings could have scored on that 4 minute PP in the 1st. The Flames did an excellent job killing that off. If the Wings had scored there I think that would have totally deflated the fans and the Flames themselves.

Yeah I heard it last night on the radio. What exactly happened there that set it off?

I heard it was just somebody that pulled it as joke.

It was funny, usually when there is a fire alarm people obey it no questions asked. Not 1 person even thought about leaving their seat.

I agree, they played a near perfect road game. Except for a few mistakes that the Flames capitalized on, this game could have gone the Wings way. I thought it was easy to see the Wings weren't phased by the crowd. Its their veteran presence that shines in situations like last night.

if you want to get technical about it.....a chiming alarm does not mean evacuate, its the solid bell that means 'get the hell out!'

Maybe this played a role in me not being amused by it. http://www.contrast.org/hillsborough/home.shtm

Although I am sure the stewards had a role in telling the people it was a false alarm.

Another Flames fan perspective who was at the game.

I know it's already been said, but the crowd was awesome, just crazy loud. After Detroit's goals was the only time the crowd quited down. We will be even more loud on Thursday, they seemed a little apprehensive at times because of the way the first two games went. But after a win at home, the hope is back. This should be a benefiting factor for the Flames.

I thought the Flames did a good job with the 5 on 5 against Detroit. Key for the Flames is staying out of the penalty box. That four minute penalty got the Wings organized that period when they weren't on their game. About time Iginla started playing and Tanguay had a great game. Clearly had a great hit. Phanuef had to find his brain while they scored and looked a little loopy his next shift. Draper was quite the force out there, kudos to him. Bertuzzi didn't do a thing, except get booed by the crowd. When Warrener got hit by the puck it was terrifying. Reminded me of when Yzerman got hit in '04. A player writhing around like that is just gut wrenching to see. Good to see that he returned.

Game 4: Detroit's confidence probably hasn't wained, in my opinion, that was a close game. They knew going into the Saddledome was going to be tough because the way the Flames play at home and the crowd factor. Detroit has no reason not to play like they did in game 1 and 2. With that said Calgary should have some new found confidence after winning to hopefully be able to throw Detroit of their game. I expect a better game from both teams on Thursday. Some of Calgary's players have been sleeping, they need to wake up. Bertuzzi should have worked some of the rust off last night, but I still don't believe he'll be much of factor. I'll believe it when I see it.

I got better seats for Game 4, I think I sat in the stratosphere yesterday, so better seats coupled with lots of beer I'll be cheering for the boys in red (all red).

Go Flames!

I've been to the Saddledome hundreds of times and I've never heard that alarm before. But I know when there is an actual emergency a voice comes over the PA and tells everyone that something has happened but to remain in your seats. If that something gets out of control then the same voice says to evacuate. I mean you can't have the fire alarm go off in that building because someone walked through a fire exit.

I dont think that calgary is more talented at all. They definitly have the edge in goaltending, but thats about it.

Dude we could argue this all day so there really is no point. I will leave you with this fact;

Calgary was the only team in the NHL with 4 players with 70 or more points in 06/07. :P

Ah ok. I actually thought something was wrong with my radio until I heard Ken Kal said it was a fire alarm. I'm suprised the game wasn't delayed at all.

If any of this sounds foolish or totally off-base, please forgive my ignorance as I am still fairly new to hockey (at least the overall knowledge part of it anyway). I could be totally wrong, but here are the main things I thought/noticed about the game:

1. One of the first things I watched (in the 3rd period at least) was Hasek. I think he's great and he definitely IS the man right now (even after the game, a 1.68 GAA in the playoffs so far ain't bad), but I thought that he was playing a bit too far away from the goal. Then, when the Flames would come swarming in, it seemed like he would just hang out there or on one side of the goal a bit too long and it ended up costing us.

2. Yes. The refs were indeed making SOME bad calls, but I think the worst was their "NON-calls". I listened to the game on the net until the 3rd period when I was able to wrangle control of a t.v. somewhere in the house. In that period alone I saw enough hooking, slashing, spearing, and possible interference by the "Flam-ers" to choke a freaking elephant. Sure, the Wings deserve their fair share of penalty minutes but surely so does everyone else. When it comes to home ice advantage, Calgary definitely has the scales tipped in their favor. But then again, the Wings do too (thank God for that)

3. Before the game, I read a few different boards/posts about Lang and his performance (or lack thereof) and couldn't believe my eyes  . I live in the south (Alabama) and so I don't get to see too many reg. season games (only caught 1 complete game this year) and so I haven't really been able to keep up (esp. when our router would go out right as I'm trying to listen to the games on the net  ). But I made it a point to watch Lang during game 3 and I guess seeing really is believing  .

4. Lang's condition seemed to be contagious in game 3 while games 1& 2 were works of art. With the 1st two: the skating was a thing of beauty, shots were well-aimed as well as multiplicitous, and their level of physicality was consistently high throughout; I might even call it inspirational. But they looked like the bottom of the EASTERN Conference barrel in this game or to put it simply: Slow, sloppy, non-confrontational, & truly uninspired (VERY UN-WING-LIKE!!!). The looks on their faces made it seem like they'd have rather been at home watching Desperate Housewives or some "part-tard" reality show than enjoying a preferred beverage from the Stanley Cup. I began to think thoughts like, "Are they TRYING to lose?". They are so good sometimes it almost seems that they have to make a special effort to. Let's hope they don't work THAT hard ever again!!!

5. Babcock definitely needs to (as we say here in hillbilly land), "Light a fire under their tails, put some hustle behind that muscle, and come out in Game 4 ready to STOMP SOME MUD-HOLES IN THEIR .... (I'll let you all finish that sentence creatively :sly: )

But when it's all said and done, I just want to see the bloody knuckles of the Detroit Red Wings lifting the finest piece of dinnerware Canada (or whoever it was) has ever produced .

"That's just my opinion ... I could be wrong." -Dennis Miller-
