BringHomeTheCup! 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 More drama coming from the Russian Ice Hockey Federation: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=204661&hubname=nhl I read about this early today, seems like a lot of BS to me, he is one of the most promising young Russian talents, why do this? Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I think it goes beyond that. Semin is a good player, but has attitude problems like you wouldn't believe. He walked off on the Capitals last season for no real reason. I think Sergei Nemchinov knows a little bit more about Semin then some others. I know Nemchinov didn't play in the NHL at the same time Semin did, but they probably played against each other in Russia, and Nemchinov knew what he was like. I'm taking sides here, as maybe it wasn't Semin's fault. But he has a reputation, and that's makes me think something else is coming into play here.

I've heard alot of stories about Semin's attitude and anybody who walks away from playing in the greatest Ice Hockey in the world needs there head checked. But I was starting to think the kid was starting to settle down because he's had one hell of a sason.
Viperar 16 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Coming from someone who watches the caps a lot, he does have attitude problems, but this seems too harsh
glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Coming from someone who watches the caps a lot, he does have attitude problems, but this seems too harsh I think there's more to him being kicked off team Russia than this. I mean,If that's what he got kicked off for it seem's really petty from the GM.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I think there's more to him being kicked off team Russia than this. I mean,If that's what he got kicked off for it seem's really petty from the GM. That's what I said. Nemchinov is not a bad guy. I remember when he still played in the NHL and he was a decent player. He didn't have an attitude like Semin does either. Again, I feel this stems far past missing a practice. Semin has a history, and that never helps.
sibiriak 84 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I don't have evidence to support it, but from what and more significantly how the Russian national team coaches talked about this incident, they believe that Semin intentionally ignored the repeated requests to arrive to the training camp on time. Semin's Washington teammate Ovechkin didn't seem to have had any confusion about the timetable. In order to send the message that ALL players were equal and nobody got preferential treatment because of their NHL status or level of talent, they decided to cut Semin. It's Bykov's (the head coach) resposibility to field the best TEAM he can. If he wins with the players he got, he was right in cutting Semin, if not - he'll be criticized for it later. WingNutt 12 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I for one think this is stupid. Just because the guy arrives late from a flight to be totally kicked off the team is just plain wrong. Nemchinov obviously has a personal problem with Semin or something to completly kick him off the team over something like this. With all the Russian talent playing in the NHL playoffs right now Team Russia needs all the guys who are already out of the playoffs to play. Especially a guy like Semin who plays awesome along side and a teammate Alexander Ovechkin. hopefully they withdraw the punishment and let him play for the team. superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Yeah I think this whole thing is very sketchy. But as Kp said, we are probably only hearing the face value of the story. There is probably some stuff going on behind the curtain that is rooted within Semin and his attitude problems. I do however think that it is ridiculous to kick someone off of the team for missing a practice.
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I think it is the right decision. If it was a no name player, or someone not as talented as Semin who was kicked off for missing a practice, we wouldnt be talking about it. Just because Semin is talented doesnt mean he should get special treatment. He knew the time of practice, and was late. It is not like he is unfamiliar with Russia. He flew over with Ovy, so how come Ovy was on time and Semin wasnt? ps. My brother is a Caps fan and is pissed to no end about this
SweWings 45 Report post Posted April 19, 2007 Well it's too bad he won't be playing in the Worlds. I'm not gonna go into the issue of attitude but he's an entertaining player and it would have been fun to watch him play.
Oddzilla51 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2007 The Hockey News.com has learned Washington Capitals star Alexander Semin has been kicked off the Russian national team, prompting Semin's agent to refer to the fiasco as, "the most bizarre situation I've ever experienced in hockey, ever." Mark Gandler, who represents Semin, said the Russian team's decision to remove Semin from the team because he arrived hours after the team's first practice was unreasonable and far too harsh. "I don't understand it…there is no explanation for it," Gandler said. "Alexander did nothing wrong, but even if he had, the punishment doesn't fit the crime." Seems like the release of Semin is hard for his agent to swallow...

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted April 19, 2007 Semin really exploded onto the scene this year, but his agent is turning into a real baby. (This one's just way too easy!)
