Change of Pace: Slava Kozlov

With the current budget situation though, and the amount of rookies that will soon be ready to play full time, there's not much better. I know we can come on say "Let's sign Chris Drury", but is there any chance of that happening? No, probably not.

A player I would like to see here, and you probably know him Lou, is Brad Isbister. He hasn't been all that great the past couple of years, but he is a former 20 goal scorer not too long ago. And to add to that, he fights! :P

Im not really an Isbister fan, but here's one name that would make a million times more sense for THIS team than Kozlov....Scott Walker.

Slava Kozlov got 80 pts this season. He has career 0.74 PPGin reg. season and 0.67 PPG in the playoffs. He is 35 years old. If you can name 10 upcoming free agent forwards better than him, I'd be shocked. Let alone 1000.

He may command more money than the Wings would be willing to pay, but as a player, there aren't too many better.

And when was the last time he showed this great playoff prowess? You cant base this stuff on years back, who knows if he'd do anything. Just because someone has the most points doesnt mean he'd be the best signing for the team. Kozlov would end up being a waste of money for this team imo, a player of his style isnt needed. As i mentioned, Scott Walker makes way more sense.

I'm not saying that signing S.Kozlov as a UFA for the next season is a good idea, unless he agrees to $2 mil. or so.

But he is very good player still. Just like signing Lecavalier is not feasible at his salary, but he is still a very good player.

As to playoff history, how long ago counts? Tkachuk did anything in the playoffs several years ago, buta lotof people here wanted him on the Wings. Slava Kozlov played on a terrible Sabres team, then on a young and bad Atlanta team.

This year is the first time he had a chance to play in the playoffs, since Detroit traded him for Hasek in 2001.

Hardly a representative sample, with Atlanta playing as poorly as they did as a team.

Isnt Robert Lang supposed to be a playoff performer too? Things change with time. You cant just sign Kozlov and assume he'll contribute in the postseason.

Kozlov had 0 pts this year, as has been pointed out.

We have all watched Slava play in the playoffs and seen him score many goals in the winged wheel

Given if we had enough Cap room, I'd take Walker in an instant. He'd be such an upgrade of Samulesson. Unfourtantly though, Carolina will probably re-sign him.
