puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 update on Homer I didn't see this in the thread. Probably no Homer for the Game 1, Rd 2 opener on Thursday, this says. We shall see, he is a big tough hockey boy. But better safe than very sorry. At least his eye seems OK.

SoupGuru 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 Of all the people that choose to not wear a face shield, Holmstrom amazes me the most since he stands in front of all those cannon shots from the point. I hope he gets well soon, we need him.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 The detnews link is a good one b/c it also mentions Lebda is day-to-day. ******* Flames dude; I hate 'em. Anyway I wonder if Holmstrom would consider wearing a mask or a shield.

esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 Here's what Bob McKenzie has to say about it. Doesn't sound good. Off topic, but I remember Bob McKenzie being the biggest proponent for getting the "sending a message late in a losing effort" out of the game of hockey, but then didn't really hammer Calgary when they did it to us in Game 5. Hmmm...guess it's just playoff hockey. esteef
Viperar 16 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 Here's what Bob McKenzie has to say about it. Doesn't sound good. his writing is pure speculiation, hes like well the wings think hes day to day BUT theres also a chance hes out indefinately, but the wings are optimistic, BUT IT DOESNT LOOK GOOD... blah blah blah, ill wait till the wings release a statement thanks no offense to you HOH for postin it but the guy sounds like a goon
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 Per Detroit News Online (read grayish colum on the right of the page)... http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../704240385/1128 Holmstrom update  The Wings delayed their flight home from Calgary to wait for Tomas Holmstrom , who spent the night in the hospital after taking a stick to the face in Game 6.  Holmstrom didn't speak with reporters Monday, and his status for Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Thursday won't be known for a day or two. The veteran forward was clipped in the left eye by a high stick from the Flames' Craig Conroy in the first overtime period Sunday. He'll have another visit with a specialist today in Detroit.  "It's kind of swollen shut a little bit -- the stick hit the eyelid," general manager Ken Holland said. "An ophthalmologist saw him (in Calgary) and gave him the green light to fly. So that's a good sign.  "He's got a little bit of blood around the eye. But I know our doctor, seeing him today after seeing him last night, thought there was good improvement. So hopefully over the next couple days it continues to improve." Still seems day-to-day in my opinion.
pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 With the angle of the stick that hit Homer, I'm not sure a visor would have helped him any. it would have been from up and under and possible could have hurt him worse. regardless, it's just another example of the players not having nearly enough respect for each other. Since they can't clutch and grab, they try to lift the stick... missed stick, stick to the face. Not sure there's any way around this... all i know is that pavs and zetterberg lift sticks every shift and i have yet to see either of them lose control and blast somebody's face. I feel your frustration, but I don't think it applies here. Conroy is a classy player, add to that the fact that it is OT in an elimating game 6 one day after game 5, and it's not as much about disrespect as survival and exhaustion. It was a really unfortunate event, but those plays have been around as long as I've watched the game. It happens...just a bad result.
Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 Someone on another message board said he heard on WXYT that Homer is going to be out 1-2 weeks. Every other report I've heard and seen says he will miss maybe a game or two. I certainly hope he's not going to be out longer than a couple of games... BetweenThePipes 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 At least he has a few days off to get better. If he misses game one, that's ok. We still have other games. I can imagine how bad he wants out there though!

Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 These are quotes from the Lansing State Journal about Holmstrom, the LSJ has never really paid all that much attention to the Wings but...its better then nothing. Holmstrom suffered a cut to his left eyelid when he was clipped by Craig Conroy's stick early in the first overtime... ..."He had a little bit of bleeding around his eye" Holland said. "I know that our doctor felt seeing him last night and seeing him this morning, there was good improvement, and hopefully over the next few days he continues to improve." Sounds optimistic at least! alowicious 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 (edited) Well, Word is NO Homer OR Lebda for Game 1. Detroit News Bring in Hudler! Lets hope the Wings can get Bertuzzi to get in front of that net and Homer can be back by game 2! Go Wings! *edited for Link Edited April 25, 2007 by alowicious
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 I think they'll probably go with screen-by-committee until Homer gets back. Bert and Franzen might be the primary guys out front. Big boys, but nobody does that job better than Homer. You can look at Tomas's stats and say he had just one assist through six playoff games, but you'd be dead wrong to try and say he didn't make an impact. Get well soon, Demolition Man! Covenant 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 Actually, it sounds exactly like the stuff the Preds kept saying about Sullivan during round one. He never played a game... I suppose I'm never going to read something intelligent from you, but.. I hold out hope. Sullivan had been out for nearly a month before the playoffs even started. A chronic back injury and a recent gash near the eye aren't quite the same.
