Player Development

We all know that the development of players in the Red Wings organization has been far superior to the majority of teams in the NHL despite where we generally pick in the draft.

Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Tomas Kopecky, Johan Franzen, Nick Kronwall, Jiri Fischer, Brett Lebda, Dan Cleary(i know we ddint draft him), Andreas Lilja(i know, hes played solid, Valterri Fipulla, Jiri Hudler,...

Can this be due to utter brilliance in scouting, or do you guys think there is a direct corelation to the development of our prospects with the likes of playing along side the Lidstroms, Chelios, Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull, Robitaille, Schneiders of the world?

Honestly, I never really thought that their player development was all that great or noticeably better than any other team.

They have made some good picks over the years (Datsyuk and Zetterberg), but one could also question why they didn't pick them earlier if their scouting was so good. The guys picked before them in the draft haven't developed very well (just playing devil's advocate here...I do think their scouting is top notch).

Back to the topic though, I think the jury is out on most of the names you have mentioned, almost all of them are still developing and it has been fairly slow development for some (Kronwall, Kopecky, Franzen)
