Convince me why I shouldn't be dreading this series....

Very good, not completly delusional I see. :P

But in my mind where the Sharks speed comes into play isn't in the high fliers. Every team has few of those. It's in the surprising speed of guys like Grier, Clowe, Thornton, Ehrhoff, Goc etc. there simply are very few guys on the roster that would be considered slow. Bernier and maybe Brown, that's about it. And the difference between a speedy team like Nashville, and a speedy team like the Sharks is that Sullivan, Kariya Legwand etc are midgets. The Sharks bring all that speed, but they put it in a 6'2 215lb package

The trick in managing the Sharks speed is not in your best D handling the 3 high fliers, it's in your 3rd pairing handling Grier and Goc...

Best post I have ever seen from this cocky clown ^ here or on the chest pumping sjsharks.com board.

Clowe, Grier and pavelski will be keys to this series imho.

I was just thinking about this over the past couple of days, and I haven't had time to look it up but...

Didn't Hasek only start in maybe 2 of the 4 regular season games we played them this season? I seem to remember Ozzie and Joey Mac playing against them, and even then those were close games.

Edit: Well, at least one of the games was close.

Osgood and Mac started two of the games, and Hasek was pulled in one other.

I heard somewhere that was the worst game of haseks career.

The most goals he has ever let in. He didnt have a chance on most of them, some of them were lucky bounces.

(the infamous 9-4 game.) i know, i know.. I wont mention it again ;D

The infamous powerplay game you mean? If ANYONE thinks that the Sharks can score more than 4 on us in a game this series they need their head checked. We will not spend the whole night in the box like we did that night.

Not to say that is your view or anything. I do respect you and the fact that you are an actual hockey fan unlike the other dude who thinks the NHL is a league with one team in it.

Good , were getting some non-troll fans. :)

That was a bad game , but it was just a game

And thats the best part of it, it was just a game. NFM was saying yesterday how in 97 we lost to Colorado 6-0 just a game after beating them 6-0.

I've been saying for months that I didn't want to face San Jose. They're big, they're fast, they're deep, their power play is lethal, and they kind of owned us this year when we faced em.

And yet, some of you seem pretty positive about this series. I'm looking for reasons to not be dreading this series.

I know their defense isn't that good and I know we have the edge in goal. Apart from that, help me out! Make me feel good heading into Thursday. I just have "Sharks in 6" running through my head and I hate it....

-Tim

Well I won't try to convince you, but I will question why you're even worried about the series?

It's all in the hands of the players. Detroit has good players who will attempt to play their absolute best, which is pretty damned good.

Don't worry about anyone else. If they win they win, if they don't, it'll suck, but they aren't going to roll over and die for them.

On the 9 - 4 game that everyone keeps bring up.

Lets remember that we chased out Nabokov way before they chased out Hasek. Keep that in mind when you bring oup the 9 - 4 lose.

Nabokov was pulled after 12 shots and 3 goals, then the Sharks came back.

You should not be dreading this seires for 2 main reasons.

1. Playoffs are won by Defense and Goaltending.

Defense - has to go to the Wings hands down.

Goaltending - Hasek vs Nabokov - personally I would take Hasek over Nabokov. Most of the NHL would take Hasek over Nabokov. I know that the Flames would take Kippersolf (?) over Nabokov even before last series.

2. Home Ice - Detroit is amazing on home Ice. They dont lose alot at home. The Sharks HAVE to win one in Detroit.

Just my 2 Cents

I keep reading how the Wings defense/goaltending is without question better than the Shark's.

Maybe on paper... but, both teams gave up exactly 199 goals during the regular season. But, the Sharks play in a division that scores many more goals. Not counting the Wings or the Sharks, the other 4 teams in each division scored:

Pacific : 927

Central: 888

So, how exatly is it that the Wings are hands down the better defensive/goaltending team?

(And before you tell me that the Pacific scored more, becuase the other 4 team in the Pacific have worse d/goaltending than the other 4 in the Central... the other 4 teams gave up 973 and 972 respectively.... a wash)

See, that's the type of comment that makes you look silly.

Of course they can score more than 4. Any team can. Will they? I have no idea, but I believe they will. To say it's not in the realm of possibilities is just silly...

Careful skull, they don't like actual stats and facts. They much prefer to think that if the Wings simply show up with the flaming wheel on their chest, the Sharks will suddenly realize they're on the ice with the might Red Wings and go home.

Stats and facts are a banable offense in here...

Wrong again. I have never argued that the Wings CAN'T win the series. I have argued that they WON"T win the series. Big difference.

Sure I suppose the entire Sharks team bus could get hijacked driving thru Detroit's lovely streets before every game at the JLA, anything's possible... :P

Sharks are a far better team....Grinding, hitting forwards, Goaltending..Thought the Flames were hard on the wings

Just Wait....(Checking and hitting and so called dirty play), just wait for the Sharks physical play

Its going to be a tough series for the WIngs

Sharks in 5
