Wings in the West?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I love the Western Conference, I think it is much better hockey than the East. However,( I'm not fully instructed on USA city placements) but Detroit must be rather close to farthest team east, who is still in the Western Conference. It may also take a toll on the Wings this playoff.

I think they'll beat San Jose, or Vancouver (Anaheim would be Detroits best test, would be a hell of a series). Anyway, Wings have played Calgary, San Jose, (Possibly Anaheim or Vancouver), all of whom are West Coast teams. That can really bother a plyers sleep, especially at a crucial time like the playoffs.

What does everyone think about Detroit moving to the Eastern Conference ( Leafs did it a couple years back{ not that im comparing us to the leafs).

I think it would be good to rearrange the divisions, more fair to all teams, but not so drastically as originally mentioned b the NHL.

What does everyone think?

P.S. If there is already a topic on this, I apologize.

I'll be deeply saddened if they move to the East for two reasons

1. Hockey in the East of boring

2. I live in Edmonton, and based on the stupid schedulers, I would probably never see them play here again.

there is already a topic, but Detroit is actually west of Columbus by something like 2 miles.....

Needless to say, Detroit isn't going anywhere. Columbus might (and probably will at some point) go to the East, but Detroit is going to stay in the west for the time being.

Being that I am currently in detroit awaiting a crappy 10pm start in the Playoffs. I say MOVE EAST TEAM!

Also, since I will be leaving detroit and michigan as a whole in the near future and going to an eastern city... I further say GO EAST RED WINGS :)

Its ridiculous how much Detroit has had to travel so far. More than San Jose. More than Anaheim. More than Vancouver. Obviously, more than any Eastern team.

Unfortunately, most people think of the travel as an "excuse" but it has a huge effect on teams.

I'm sitting here waiting for a 10p game to start after sleeping for about 90 minutes last night (damn sciatic), working 7-6, then moving some of my stuff to my soon-to-be new home. If we were in the east, the game would be ending about now and I could go to bed.

Tough choice there <_<

i'm for keeping them in the west.

I'd like them to be in the East. Not only would it be better for travel, but we could renew our rivalry with the Maple Leafs. Of course, we'd lose rivalries with the Avs, Blues, and Blackhawks, but historically speaking, the Wings/Leafs rivalry was the best in hockey up until the early 90s.

Ummm, that hasn't happened in how long??

I know, but dont expect to play the leafs anytime soon in the playoffs either if the Wings switched right now!

We can't lose the Avs rivarly.

The Avs rivalry is essentially lost at this point anyway. The hate has escaped it. There’s not much to it anymore. There was really no historical reason for the rivalry until Claude Lemieux went Claude Lemieux. But the Leafs rivalry is deeply seeded in hockey history. I think it’s more important to revive that one.

When’s the last time Columbus made the playoffs?

That should be the final decision on having the Wings move to the East.

Actually, the team that travels the most is Dallas. By far. No other team is even close. Their closest division rival is about 800 miles away. San Jose is nextt. Their closest division rivals are about 500 miles away. The Wings have it relatively easy by comparison with Minnesota and Columbus 4 times each...

I'm with you brother. I have 2 kids and a 12 hour day. 10:00 is usually bed time for this guy.

I think what makes me even more sick is how that dumb f**k Lou Lamourello always seems to get the NHL to bend over for whatever he wants and what has his organization done for the NHL? Trap hockey, emtpy barn, ugly uniforms and forcing the NHL to look at his ugly ass all the time. The Wings have been one of the best draws across the NHL, won Stanley Cups with skill instead of the ugly trapping systems so many team have employed the last 15 years and generally been a great representative for the NHL. And how are we rewarded? Stay in the West and shutup.

It's time the NHL started rotating that Eastern spot in the West amongst ALL the Eastern clubs every 5 years. I know that sounds rediculous but it's the only fair way. Make New Jersey do the Wings travel for 5 years and see how well they do? See how much the Bald Eagle Lou L. likes it.

The East has won the Cup 3 years in a row now simply because the West is so much stronger and beats each other up for 2 months while flying half way round the globe before bowing out to a team in the East that can travel to most road games by rickshaw and play "powerhouses" like the Islanders or Atlanta.

But the Wings will never get moved to the East. We're too valuable to the Western conference and their drawing power.

I would have much preferred last nights loss to be 9:48pm instead of 12:48am...

Hey SWF... Do you have a cup of Joe left over from last night for me?
