Lidstrom?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I would't be surprised if he was not up to par after his injury. Half the Wings are either on injured reserved or playing injured. He IS playing different hockey than I like. I think part of it is Babcock switching the lines to accommodate for the injuries. After being so impressed by his perfect playing, I was quite surprised to see him make some of those mistakes.

Don't you think sometimes that we expect such a high standard of quality play from him that when he does anything less, we are in shock? I don't know. I still love him though.

Everyone put in their suggestions.. Do you think that Lidstrom is playing hurt cuz he doesnt look like himself!!!

Yep. That is the way it works. Some Wings fans are weird people, most notably the post 1997 fans. Most people who were fans before '97 aren't as dumb about things like this.

I have a question...

When the puck is loose and it's going into the corner in our own zone, and Lidstrom is going after it but there is an opposition player behind him chasing it too, Lidstrom ALWAYS stops and lets the guy get it. WHY??? Our other defensemen do it too, but not quite as often as Lidstrom... Is he trying to avoid getting slammed into the boards, or does he think he'd be better off letting the other guy take the puck and then taking it away from him? I don't get it...

Why dont you just be thankfull that we have Lids, hes the best defenseman in the league as far as im concerned.

NO KIDDING. Good call, for sure. Anyway, don't listen to evil204.. he's the same troll who came by to call Babcock a terrible coach.

Lidstrom is, in the opinion of many, one of the top five defensemen EVER; I imagine that those few who don't believe he's the best D-man on earth right now are Anaheim fans. I've even heard people call him the best hockey player on earth, period.

Dude, this is ludacris.... He is certainly the best defensive player I've ever seen. I'm only 20, but he is the equivalent to perfect as a hockey player can get. Thorton is playing really well, but Nick is amazing. I think this may be the best defensive player maybe ever

I agree, Lidstrom may not be the best overall defenseman all time (Orr), but I do feel he is the best defenseman at defense. The problem with it is making a great defensive move does not show up in the boxscore but scoring a goal does so unless you actually watch him play instead of just looking at his stats people will not always notice it. Anyways people are seeing Nick make a few mistakes and are overreacting since they are so used to him never making a mistake, but when you are defending a 1st team all nhl player your going to beat a few times and you just have to accept it.

I think it was game 2 or 3 where Lidstrom got run into the net against Calgary and went off to the bench after that and was hanging around outside the locker room for a little bit after the hit into the crossbar. Its very possible that he is nursing something from that. He did come back on the ice only minutes later. Either way, hes a warrior.

Geesh, I don't hate the guy. I'm just saying, defensively, he's not been playing up to his rep. Which is why this thread was started in the first place, no? This is just my opinion here, but thanks for calling me a bandwagon fan, haha. post '97? i think not, nice try though.

Plus two of his defensive mistakes in one game led directly to goals. When he failed to clear on the power play, then when he tried to cut-off that pass at the blueline. I'm just saying, mistakes like that are just plain bad decisions, having nothing to do with any kind of injury. Again, I don't hate the frickin' guy, but giving him "best player on the team" status seems very odd to me.

I don't think NorrisNick should be allowed to comment since he obviously is in love with Lidstrom and is biased... haha, just kidding.

What was the POINT of making this thread again?

Ok then. Who, other then Cleary and Draper, has been consistantly better than Lidstrom these playoffs?

And yes, you are a bandwagon fan. Coming on here after one bad game and calling for his head makes you one. If this is a situation like Lang or someone, who has a string of bad games put together, then yes, it's justified. But your just ranting off right now because the Wings aren't playing perfect hockey. Kinda like they after '97 right? Yeah, you know what I mean.

I'll say Lids has made a few plays which I cringed at. But no more than any other guy on our team. We are playing a VERY strong team, and it is hard to constantly keep up to that. Fact is Lids is human. He is and has been among the best in the NHL for sooo long. Name players from 1990 onward who have been consistanly as reliable as him. I'd love to see that list.

I havnt been a wings fan long enough to see most of the generations, but behind the Captain - Steve, nobody deserves to be honoured more than Nick. He is an unreal talent and when he is gone, he is going to be greatly missed. I am honestly worried to think what will happen to us when he isnt backing our blue line. He has never been flashy, but he always gets the job done.

Is this thread for real? Just because you only notice the mistakes he makes doesn't mean he's playing horribly. In fact, throughout this series I've noticed more than a dozen plays he's made that either saved an odd man rush or a pass that would undoubtedly lead to an excellent scoring chance. Lidstrom is fine, quit being so negative.

Dude.. you're a joke.

First of all, I actually clearly stated in my thread about Babcock that I DON'T think he's a terrible coach. I just don't agree with how he coaches. Read before attacking people.

Second... noone ever said Lidstrom wasn't a great player. The original poster simply said that Lidstrom hasn't been on top of his game. I only asked a question about why Lidstrom chooses to let the opposition get to the puck first instead of getting it himself, I didn't criticize him, so what the hell is your problem????

I love this forum's attitude. If there's any hint of negativity, everyone goes crazy. This is a public message board, you know, and it's there for people to post their opinions. If you disagree with someone's opinion, either state yours or piss off. These "be happy we have Lidstrom" and "be happy we finished first in the conference" posts really don't contribute to the discussion in any way.

I am very guilty of knocking Lidstrom for his errors...

however, I do realize how bad our defense sucks when he is not in a game... Therefore, I can see that does have a huge impact on this teams success.

Lidstrom has been our BEST player CONSISTENTLY.

Cleary has been good...but not on Nick's level. Draper has been Draper most nights, but he's had a couple absolutely brutal showings too. And never once has Draper been better than Nick this playoff.
