One instance I remember hearing a fan orate about was to first wrap the octopus up in cellophane or a bag. Then under your shirt wrap the cellophane several times around your stomach, interlacing the wrapped/bagged octo inot one of it's many folds.

lol.. that is awesome, thanks.. does anyone know if you get booted for this?? I know the octopi is used for marketing purposes, but does security actually condone it??

I saw a guy toss one last year against edmonton(playoffs). He just walked down into the lower bowl, tossed it, and walked back up. Didnt see anyone go after him. I think its all about timing.

there was a thread about this a couple weeks ago. i think the verdict was that if you're caught they escort you from your seat and give you a slap on the wrist, then let you go back to watch the game. im not sure though, and by all means get that thing on the ice

I think if to many get thrown they will put a stop to it. Just because we don't want the boyz to get a DOG (delay of game) for it.

*ps* if you do it, I demand pics!! lol

i dont think u would get kicked outta the game for it. it fires up the crowd and is a big tradition. also they aren't going to kick you out of a HUGE playoff game unless u do somethin really bad.

But I've heard the best way to get an octopus into the Joe is boil it so it's not so slimy. Then wrap your torso with cellophane and after a few layers flatten the octopus and wrap it in a layer and continue with a few more layers. Hope it workssssssss!!!

Someone on the forums noted that it doesn't actually remove the natural octopussy smell. But I guess you'll find out if that's right when you stuff it in the boiling water, e_mac!

Definitely take some pictures though. It'd be hilarious if you shoot them like... from start to finish, showing the selected octopus, you and your crew getting ready to roll from the house, the final walk to the doors at the Joe, Fan On A Mission style. It's an important occasion, after all. ;)

I'll take credit for that idea, thank you, as it's mine :P though what HR40 posted is a closer description.

However, I offer the caveat that it may be slight overkill. I would call it foolproof as long as you wear something big and baggy like a jersey, because security simply does not check you if you're not carrying anything. I have never brought a bag to a game however and it's quite possible they give nothing but a cursory check for ceremonial purposes and wave you through.

And I add that you must always boil the octopus. It's common courtesy for Al so he can pick it up easy and doesn't risk accidentally slinging into the bench as he twirls it about his head. It doesn't leave a mess on Al's neatly manicured ice. And it's less stinky that way, and you will find it easier to grip and throw further.

Alright.. thanks for all the feedback guys.. i'm definately going to get some pictures... now, what do you all think is the best time to do it ??? i know it is usually after a goal... but i also think its cool when fans throw it at a random time early in the game or even before the game as it gets the fans reallly pumped..
