Take a camera. When your gonna throw it make sure everyone around you is standing or get them to stand. Have someone else next to you take pics the whole time. Probably best to do after a goal or during a TV timeout or something. One of those times that play isnt tryed to be immediately resumed.

*Note* Try not to throw it DURING the anthem. I was at Game 1 of this series and it got thrown right during the anthem not to far from the singer. Maybe its just me but I think its kinda disrespectful.

Hey Folks

Im going to the game on Saturday and i'm thinking about tossing a puss on the ice.. has anyone ever tryed sneaking one in before or know of any methods in doing so?? You dont get thrown out for chucking out a puss do you??

The last two games I have been to this post season a 'puss has been tossed onto the ice... Wrap it in a bag, make damn sure you have nothing metal that may attract attention to you going through the metal detectors and put that thing down your pants. When you choose to toss it the people run down the stairs and hurl it onto the ice. They (security from here on out in this post ;) ) will allow you a few moments to do a little gig, taunt the oppsoing team and receive your standing O from the crowd. But they are watching and as you make your way up the row, you will be kindly greeted by , large, guys in black suits... Ilitch's personal Homeboys actually. They will kindly escorte you into the concourse and on your way... Whether that is to the outside or back to your seat, or to Ilitch's suite I can not comment. But they do confront you... I have seen this action EVERY time this the Octopus was thrown on the ice....

Good Luck though!

after the first goal is good. you don't wanna hang onto it too long cause if the wings are losing 4-1 in the third your only options may be to toss it then and look stupid, or ride home with an octopus still wrapped around your belly.

I am totally for tossing a "puss" on the ice, but there is a law against it. I think it is stupid, but here it is...

Security guards at Joe Louis Arena will confiscate any item they feel might be thrown onto the ice. Furthermore, any person seen throwing an octopus onto the ice at a Red Wings game will be taken to jail.

Man guys lighten up, its tradition...

They just had a segment about proper Octopus throwing edict on Red Wings Weekly, I'll do a little recap to the best of my memory's ability:

1. An octopus should ALWAYS be boiled before being thrown on the ice. So it doesn't stick to the ice and is easier for the "Octopus Wrangler" to handle.

2. An octopus should only be thrown after a Red Wings goal, but if you can't wait that long it IS acceptable to throw it before the game starts but AFTER the singing of the National Anthems.

3. Always make sure your octopus will land on the ice, AWAY from any players or officials. make sure that the octopus you buy is the correct size for you depending on your throwing ability and your seating position.

This is all coming from some fish market in Detroit that sells octopus.

Edit = Grammar

Hey guys.. I ended up tossin puss yesterday... you probably saw it on t.v . it was the one that landed next to Nabokov near the end of the game... I was planning on throwing it earlier but I have to admit, I was too worried about getting kicked out of the game.. It was a breeze getting it in though.. i did it just as Vincanni suggested. I removed it from my body in the washroom, and left it in a plastic bag the rest of the game.. I tossed it really high over the end mesh.. anyone at the game see me?? I have some pictures, but i'm not sure how to post them in a thread.. so if someone could help me, i would be glad to post them..

Its the icon to the right of the mail looking icon, three over from the color changing button.

One of my good friends and I boiled an octopus in 1997 and we thew it at the television on a tarp every time the Wings scored. I must say, we got a lot of milage out of him. We scooped him up and put him in the fridge in between games! Great fun... weird, but fun!

Did you have any problems with security or any other consequences along those lines?
