The Wings defense is probably good enough to make up for any inexpierence that Backstrom has. Hey, if the Wings can make Manny Legace look good, they should be able to make Backstrom look just as good, if not better. ;)

True, but look what happened in the playoffs.

I just don't get Backstrom, he has played 41 games in the NHL, his stats are pretty good, but he plays on the Western Confrence version of the Devils. With just about everyone on this board complaining that Marty isn't that good, he just looks like it because of the system he plays is, you would think that they could make the same asumption about Backstrom. In stead, many of them go in the other direction. I just don't get it.

And look at his playoff stats, not so hot. BTW, all you Marty haters saying his stats are padded, take a look and see who faced the most shots this year in the NHL.

Well Detroit isn't really known for sloppy defensive play...Well, sometimes they lapse...On the other hand Hasek is a proven world-class goalie and Backstrom hasn't really proven himself.

Marty is amazing and will quite likely have a record amount of records by the time he retires...Roy can go cry in a corner which makes me really happy...

True, but again, look what happened to Manny in the playoffs. It's quite similar to what happened to Backstrom this year.

Is having more records than anyone else a record in itself? And if it is, would that record count in the number of records held?

We want a goalie who brings it in the play-offs and at crunch time...It doesn't have to be a goalie who gets nominated for the Vezina every year...A nice Emery/Miller. Obviously a Lundqvist/Brodeur/Kipper/Luongo would be cooler but I don't think we can afford a 6-7 million a year contract. On the other hand we could do that and still resign Zetts to a GOOD contract (6-7 mill a year). We'd be like the Lightning sure but hopefully with a better balance...

EDIT: I just realized Liv is a RFA at the end of the season. He'll probably have to have a kick-ass camp to even get signed...Hopefully he will get signed though...

Ideally Hasek will be resigned and he'll stay healthy. He'll play 40-50 games. Howard 30-40. Liv might get a game or two. By the time of the play-offs Howard will be kickin ass...How's that for a likely scenario?

Manny has done okay for himself without the help of the mighty Red Wings:

I'm not sure whether or not to take that seriously. His stats haven't ever really been that great, but then again, he isn't really a quality starter type goaltender. I compare him to Cloutier.

....

I was not a fan of Manny in the playoffs , but he is a much better goalie then cloutier , almost 100x better.

Those stats are good for a blues goalie

Take it seriously. I never said he was the second coming, but the Blues aren't that good, and he did okay on the team. His reg. season sv % is comparable to Hasek's, and 5 SO's isn't too shabby. He started slow, but I remember that before he got injured he was doing pretty well.

Am I the only one on this board who is NOT impressed with Hasek's play these playoffs? If Osgood were in, I'm willing to bet we'd be in the same situation if not a better one.

You're out of your mind.

I'd give Backstrom a look if Dom retires.

Big whoop. Let's see how he does whenever the Blues make the playoffs again, or if he's in the playoffs with another team.

Manny is a product of whats in front of him. Even though the Blues were a sub-500 team, they were not that bad. He really didn't steal any games this season.

Yeah, his stats aren't bad, like I always say, GAA is more of a reflection of team d, but Sv% is quite a telling stat. That being said, I still don't think Dom's was that great, it could have and IMO should have been better.
