WingFanInStarLand 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2007 couple of things... Phillips/Volchenkov have really matured into a top shutdown pair out there. They will lock down whoever they play against out there. No one really talks about Ottawa's 3 other lines, and they are all playing pretty well, The Fisher-Comrie-Schaefer line and Vermette-Kelly-Neil have both been defensively responsible and have chipped in some quality goals. Ottawa will play physical, and while they don't have the depth that Buffalo has, their top-end guys are better IMO than Buffalo's top end guys (Heatley is the best player in the series and Spezza is more talented than either Briere or Drury though he lacks the playoff pedigree). Alfredsson has had a Smythe-like postseason this year. Senators in 6! Yes, I cheer for Ottawa when the Wings aren't playing
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 While I think this will be a GREAT series, I also said that about Sens-Pens and Sharks-Preds in round 1. Meanwhile, an anticipated snoozer like Nucks-Stars ended up being the only series that went the full 7, and it was pretty exciting if you like defense. So you never know. FWIW, I'm calling Sens in 6. Like another poster mentioned, they have scoring coming from all lines right now and Emery's been very good. I'll be rooting for Buffalo though. Just glad we'd only have to play one of them to win the Cup! Not looking ahead, I promise.
Hank 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I honestly think it's gonna be a war of attrition. The survivor is the winner, but as to whom that will be, your guess is as good as mine. I think we have a better chance of beating the Sens, though, so I will hope it's them. I think the Sabres would be a much easier team for the Wings. The Wings have played more physical against two teams that are bigger and more aggressive than them. The Sabres, on the other hand, have shown that their game can be neutralised by physicality. The Islanders and Rangers gave them fits by doing so. The Wings have shown to be far greater physically than either of those two teams and I believe they would dismantle them in 4 or 5 games. Ottawa downright scares me; fast, aggressive, great defensively, physical and have scoring from all 4 lines. Emery is considered the 'weakest' goalie left in the playoffs and yet all he's done is win 8 games while only losing 2. I don't know if anyone can beat them at this point. livediehockey80 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Buffalo Sabres vs. Ottawa Senators=Bloodsport on Ice. Who needs Ultimate Fighting when you have the Sens and Sabres beating the s*** out of each other.
adtthosa 5 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Can't wait for this series. I really have no idea who will win. I was thinking Buffalo in 7 awhile ago, but Ottawa has looked great so far and I think the teams they've faced have been tougher. I think it will come down to Emery. If he plays well, the Sens will win.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I'd like to see Andrew Peters and Brian McGratten dress for their respective teams just for the hell of it. Hey, it's more fights! Though that won't happen, we might still see some good action here. I'm sure the Sabres haven't forgiven Neil on his blindside hit on Drury, so this should be interesting. wee whaler 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 NIce notes overall from LGW. Sabres are emotionally charged for this series, Connolly last season, Drury cheapshot this season. Ruff will kick Murrays a$$ anyday, anywhere. Heatley-Alfie-Spezza line (HAS line) as in, that is the only line that HAS scored for them. Emery is not a top tier goalie, Lundqvist is the best I've seen this post-season, DiPietro was second. Lundy & DiPee stole games by themselves. They were all saying NYI & NYR were the hottest teams of the second half. Sabres have looked flat a couple games so far, but Ottawa will be an all out blitz. Too much for Murray to handle, Ott forward are too soft on the backcheck, and they havent seen Zubrus or Connolly this season. Who's the heart and leader of the Otters? Tallinder will all over Heatley, just like he was on Yagr.
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Tough pick...I really like both teams here. Gonna go with Ottawa just because I don't want to see the 'Buffaslug' jerseys in a Stanley Cup Finals game.
