SweWings 45 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 More than just a beer or a steak dinner. How about Hasek gives Lidström half his bonus, hmm?
donfishmaster 62 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Actually not just a beer. An entire case. I love the guy, I have since he played for the Sabres. But he about gave me a coronary tonight. You suck at playing the puck, Dom. So please stop! I'd say Dom owes him a shiny new Mercedes!
Opie 308 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 (edited) In the interview on VS after the game Nick seemed to laugh about it as though it was just a routine play made by a routine defenseman. That is what makes him the best in the league, he believes that what he is doing is what every other D-man in the league should be doing. Oddly enough a very similar way the wings last captain, he went out there and did what he thought he was supposed to do. I don't think that the Norris trophy is a big deal to Nick, I mean yeah I am sure he thinks it is a great honor, but I doubt that he even thinks about winning it before or during the season. If you guys watched the game on VS did any of you notice how Engbloom can not say Nick Lidstrom, he always say Lick, then corrects himself. WEIRD! Great hustle and effort by LIDS and even if that shot was going wide he forced that shot wide by being Nick Lidstrom (getting into Griers head) and out and out hustle. For the D Lids, What more can I say Chelli great night Markov, yet another night where you really don't notice him because he is playing great hockey. Lilja, Stepping up big Lebda, The ankle looked healthy Quincey. for not screwing up in the D zone too much. The D is playing well considering who they just lost, to most teams losing a Matt Schneider type player would decimate their Defense. Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I LOVED that play, is it on You Tube yet? That's why hockey is great , name another sport (maybe football) where you can go from saying "OH S%$#" , to AWESOME in two seconds? It was the 1st watching a playoff gane where my wife actually screamed louder than I did!
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Hasek must keep playing the puck in order for the Wings to be successful.. I know he makes mistakes, but ultimately he is doing more good than anything else. Think about it.. we have been beat in the past by teams who love to dump and chase and win the battles with a hard forecheck.. Hasek is taking away this element of the game and the wings are able to move the puck out of the zone with more success then i have seen in some time.. not only that, but the Defense is not forced to take a beating like they have in the past.. This assessment is spot on. While Dom gives me a heart attack when he leaves the net, its necessary to get the puck out of the zone, and eliminate the other teams strong forecheck. Dom could use a little work at playing the puck, but he still needs to continue to play it.
puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 You have earned regwinguofmfan's ass hat on the night award. Congrats, Nabokov almost won it. *gasp* the illustrious Ass Hat award?? Sweet! Previous winners include: 1) Dominik Hasek 2) Robert Lang Both of them heroes of the playoffs! What a great group to be a part of. Thanks Reg!
unkempt 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Hasek does owe him a drink, and the entire team owes Hasek a few drinks or two after his brainfart because he completely shut the door and was absolutely superb after that. So I guess the team and Hasek are all even. Not exactly, just imagine, if Hasek buys the whole D a drink and each player buys Hasek a drink - I think Hasek would be unconscious before finishing them (the drinks) off
sean 19 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Ok, Hasek may owe Lidstrom a beer for that play, but the whole D owes Hasek some beers, for last night, in my opinion.
pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 That Grier's shot would miss the net even without Lidström blocking it. Lets not make the happening bigger than it was cause there's no reason. Aside from that, if Lidstrom would have hustled to the puck, none of this would ever have happened. Grier was more than a few strides behind Lidstrom at neutral ice yet still beat Nick to the puck... Reminds of the Kenny Lofton days in Cleveland, he would mis-judge the ball so bad at first that he'd have to make an amazing diving catch to make the out in center field. Nick was at the end of a shift, actually. Hasek had a few options on where to go with the puck and he misplayed it as badly as he could. The onus is definitely on the goalie to make the right play. Grier was more than a few strides behind Lidstrom at neutral ice yet still beat Nick to the puck... uh, yeah Grier is super fast. So Nick was off his game - NOT! The beer or steak is well deserved. Ok enough - that was my favorite play of the game - just shows you the effort Nick puts in each and every night and why he will win the Norris again. Great post game interview also. Aside - why does Melrose keep calling him *Nicky* Lidstrom. It drives me crazy - does he call him *Nicky* to his face? just wondering.....

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Looks like Hasek was looking at this thtread and took everybody's advice. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../705090345/1128 Lidstrom garners praise for his save Defenseman's play to save Hasek's shutout earns the gratitude of Wings goaltender. Eric Lacy / The Detroit News ROMULUS -- Disclaimer: Dominik Hasek has been bailed out by teammates before. But Monday night's rescue effort from Nicklas Lidstrom was so noteworthy -- a diving deflection of a misplaced puck in front of the net -- that Hasek felt compelled to offer a reward. "I bought him a few beers last night, so we're all right now, we are even," said Hasek, smiling after the team plane landed Tuesday evening at Metro Airport. "The puck would have definitely been in the net (if it weren't for Lidstrom). I made a mistake trying to help Nick."
Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Considering how Lidstrom stepped up after Schneider went down in game 5 (not to mention shutting down Joe Thornton), I'd say the whole team owes him a beer.
