Petition to Tether Hasek to the Net

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I don't think a tether is the soultion. Dom could cut that with his skate. I've talked at length about this with my friends. I suggest an electric shock collar. This would allow Babs to shock him when he wants to get Dom attention.

In all seriousness, yes a goalie playing the puck CAN help, but Dom has got to be the worst in the NHL at it. He almost always places the puck in an awkward position for his dman to pick it up. It doesn't always cause bad things, but he almost always makes things much harder than necessary. It would be one thing if he were to just stop the puck, and leave it there for the damn to grab it. But he never does, he always needs to move it somewhere. It's unnecessary, and considering his puck handeling ability, he should try to not do that as much as possible.

Case and point:

If Dom had the ability and knowhow to play the puck correctly, that doesn't happen.

I agree that a goalie moving the puck does help the play, but Hasek more times than none has given the puck away. If he insists on getting out of the net to give it to one of our players, than he should at least take a look at who he's passing it to. Dom has been phenominal, he has made a few mistakes but I wouldn't worry to much about it, when he makes these kind of mistakes he also is the most solid goalie afterwards.

Seriously, it is so blind how the typical viewer insists how bad of a puckhandler Hasek is. Even analysts insist on this fact--unfortunately, these people are missing the fact, as mentioned, that most of his plays eliminate the opposition forecheck. At one point, when, on a SJ powerplay, he went behind the net between two Sharks that were literally a foot to either side of him, and subtly tipped the puck over the stick to his d-man in the corner, and I remarked to myself how many goalies would (and are even capable of) even attempt that. He makes a mistake here and there, but most aren't costly...even in Game 6, he doesn't come out against Grier, there's probably a scoring chance, so either way, it's team defence we're talking about. The basis of people saying he can't handle the puck are the ones that note that he doesn't have a lot of strength behind his passes/clears and use that as the measuring stick. This is true, and he has to make up for it with smarts. Dominik is probably the best pokechecking goaltender in the league as far as tipping centering attempts, as well as straight on chances, probably because the pokecheck is rarely taught to goalies anymore, thusly he is better with the stick than most save his actual shot power. Dom's is a game of details and he does it very well. People that say he can't play the puck and should stay in the net are sadly mistaken.

You are completely wrong on all counts...sorry.

 People need to figure out what they're looking at, I think.

I know what you all are saying about that feeling you get when he leaves the net, my but tightens up every single time I think it's going to lead to some serious problems for me later in life

I absolutely love that you wrote that you don't think the NHL would allow a bungee cord tied to goaltender. It's making me laugh so hard that I am having trouble typing. I can't believe people came on here and actually are getting riled up and say there is no way they would sign the petition, and that you are trying to change Hasek. Thanks for a lighter post.

Let Dom play his game. He's going to wina heck of a lot more games for us then he'll lose.

I'm sure that's what babcock would say too

"don't worry about that Thornton Goal Dom or the giveaway to grier you just do whatever you want"

You people need to admit sometimes that player have thier good qualities and bad. Dom is a lights out goaltender who is just a winning machine, i mean come on he won a ton with a buffalo team that had Mike Peca as thier big name player, but he does get bored and sometimes will let in a softie or make a bad play with the puck. No one is saying that he lost us a game but it could happen and if you can't see that then you are blinded by your love for him.

thank you finally someone who wants to have a little fun here instead of being so serious, God help you if you can't have some fun. Everything in life does not need to be over analyzed or argued. thanks datsyukgrl

Hasek must keep playing the puck in order for the Wings to be successful.. I know he makes mistakes, but ultimately he is doing more good than anything else. Think about it.. we have been beat in the past by teams who love to dump and chase and win the battles with a hard forecheck.. Hasek is taking away this element of the game and the wings are able to move the puck out of the zone with more success then i have seen in some time.. not only that, but the Defense is not forced to take a beating like they have in the past.

This assessment is spot on. While Dom gives me a heart attack when he leaves the net, its necessary to get the puck out of the zone, and eliminate the other teams strong forecheck.

Dom could use a little work at playing the puck, but he still needs to continue to play it.

This was stated in the "Hasek owes Lids a Beer thread" and I completely agree with it. Very similar to what Shadow47 is saying.

Sure it scares the hell out of me when he does play it, but its a necessary evil to eliminate the other teams forecheck.

Geez, people, go buy a sense of humor. We're just having a little fun, not debating the intricate strategies of goalie behavior.

I'm thinking invisible fence. As has been pointed out, the NHL might question whether a bungee cord is really a new piece of Dom's mask. Much easier to hide that little collar.

I was wrong in suggesting that we just take his stick away, he usually lets go of it to make a save but he does poke check so that's a bad idea. Plus he would probably try to play the puck with his skates if he didn't have a stick

BAD IDEA!!

I love Dom, he's fun to watch like roller coasters are fun to ride.

The "need a clean pair of shorts" kind of fun.

Besides, we all knew about this before we signed him (again), its just a part of the overall package that is the DoMiNaToR!!!

Love it or leave it.

If its a joke, I have no problem with torpedoing a thread!

But seriously, I think Dom needs to continue to play the puck to aid with the forecheck, and my points were made without any attacks.

That being said, maybe you weren't referring to me directly.

I don't anyone in particular is being referred to, people just get too defensive about things in general. If you were to talk about datsyuk I might react too harshly as well (depending on tthe subject matter). The Wings are successful so enjoy the ability to be light about stuff instead of having to figure out why they are out of the playoffs.

Than he definitely wasn't referring to me, because I've had nothing but positive to say about Dom, and I greatly enjoyed torpedoing the new "Lazy and Sucks" thread.

Wasn't really calling anyone out specifically. Several folks flew to Dom's defense when it seemed pretty obvious to me it was all in good fun.

yeah, he kind of freaks me out...between skating out of the net and pulling the snow angel. at the end of the day, though, he's got us into the wcf's and pulled a shutout in the only game we got outshot in during the sharks series.

as long as he keeps winning games, i will (grudgingly) support his crazy style of play. (it's only grudging because, as others have stated...it's taking years off my life.)

but, in all seriousness: i'm thinking electromagnets with some sort of distance-activation device. as soon as he gets a certain distance from the goal, the electromagnets kick in, pulling him back towards the net! this way, he wouldn't even have to turn around to skate back, he would feel no pain, and everybody wins!

Excellent Solution i was thinking magnets but couldn't see how it would work. This is good, innovative, I LOVE IT. Let's work on a patent, I'm sure Babs would pay at least 1 mil for it. We could call it the Domagnator (OK that's name is lame got anything better)

I am all for this idea no shock to mess with his concentration!! I also would allow Babs the ability to "unlock" the field if say its a breakaway situation also for timeouts, end of the period. Trouble is when we go to the away games will they allow us to bring our "special Dom" net?

Love this thread made me laugh picturing Dom skating out then right as he reaches the puck slowly going backwards to the net!! The man is pushing me towards a heart attack when he leaves the net but I wouldn't trade his effort for the world!!
