Melrose Picks Helps Wings

Alright, we all know Barry Melrose strongly dislikes the wings, mainly becuase we decided to go with Scotty Bowman in 1993 instead of him, however, I think it worked out pretty well for us, so get over it.

The point of this is, so far, Melrose has picked against Detroit in every round, and we've won every round. He picked against us in Round 3 vs. the ducks, so hopefully this reverse luck will continue to work. (anyone recally him saying Flyers in 7 in 1997 and then in game for finally saying wings in 4?).

1st Round - Melrose: Flames in 7

Actual: Wings in 6

2nd Round - Melrose: Sharks in 6

Actual: Wings in 6

3rd Round - Melrose: Ducks in 6

Actual: ?????

You have your "facts" off by a little bit.

Melrose left to coach the Kings because Bryan Murray wouldn't guarantee that he would only coach one more year. The Wings had pretty much promised Melrose the job after Murray stepped down, but he didn't want to wait because he had an opportunity (LA) to coach in the NHL.

Bowman was hired the following year, it was never a case of us picking Bowman over Melrose. In fact, if Melrose had decided to wait out the Detroit job, we would have likely never hired Bowman to begin with.

When Bowman was hired to coach here, Melrose was fresh off taking LA to the Stanley Cup Finals and was no longer in our organization at all...
