Wings Fans in mourning

I woke up this morning, barely able to drag myself out of bed. So great was the sadness, the depression, the heartbreak of the realization that the Red Wings Playoff run on 2007 had come to a painful end. There was confusion and anger as well. I had to ask myself "Self, how could it be over just like that?†I mean, before the Calgary series, lots of experts had us marked for losing, "we're too old, too soft", and we handled the Flames just fine. And again, when played San Jose, the most knowledgeable hockey expert in the world, stated over and over, and over and over, and over again, how big, how young, and how fast the Sharks were. His mantra "Sharks in 5......" haunted my dreams every night before that series started. Yet the Wings played on in the face of certain death and defeat and won that series as well. Surely, we'd at least give it shot against the "greatest Duck team ever assembled'. We knew they were good, with all world stud defenseman, goal a minute forwards, and a Goalie that hasn't ever been scored on. Ever, not once. Not even in practice. Surely, the Wings would take their chances on the ice in Game 1.

But sadly, late breaking news came from the Commish on Wednesday evening. "The Detroit Red Wings have conceded their Conference final against the Duck of Anaheim. They have finally come to grips with the reality that rest of the world has known for quite some time now. The Red Wings are too old, too slow, and too soft to even compete against the invincible Duck. So in order to spare the pain, suffering and bloodshed of a 4 game sweep, in which the Duck would score 500 goals each period, and probably not even allow the Wings to get out of their own zone, the Detroit Red Wings have begged me to invoke the mercy killing clause from the new CBA, and allow the Red Wings to simply concede the series. Mike Babcock also wants to beg forgiveness for even considering his team might belong on the same ice as the Duck."

So, there it is. Our season is over. Just like that. In the end, I guess it's for the best. It would suck to stay up late to watch the Wings get slaughtered in Anaheim. Oh well, at least my tortured soul won't have to wonder "what if...†I know for certain, that we would have been destroyed, reduced to the old, slow, soft, crying Euro-women that we are.

Hopefully, this post will find other Red Wings fans that are inconsolable today as well, and be of some comfort. Maybe, we could get together and have group therapy or something. Do they make a hallmark card that reads "Sorry your team sucks, it's all for the best though...â€Â

Wait a minute. I just looked at my TV guide on my DVR, and it shows Game 1 between the Wings and the Duck is still going on as scheduled on Friday. Could it all have been just a joke? Just a cruel hoax? Could it be possible, that all the experts, all the talk of how my beloved Wings will get dominated, are all worthless conjecture? Could it really be possible that the only thing that matters is what happens on the ice? I guess anything is possible.......We'll just have to watch Game 1 and see.

Sincerely,

TiredofalltheBStrashtalkbeforethedamgameevenstartsinAustin

HAHAHA

The REAL funny thing is, after the season is over the Wings will be GODS in Michigan and the Quacks will have to wait in line at LA restaurants behind producers, A-list, B-list, C-list, and porn actors and actresses as well as every Lakers and Clippers player and staff, Hip-Hop babbler and his/her entourage, professional surf-boarders, and Larry the Cable Guy.

Just ask Fedorov... ;)

.. good take. But now, finally... the wait is almost unbearable. I'm thankful as hell the ECF's start tonight! Can't wait to watch on CBC.. I'm curious, whom will they pick in the WCF seeing as both teams are American! Oh yeah, the team with the greater contingent of North American players. :P

GO SENS! (in the East)

That was awesome. Great little piece there...

Whatever happened to PuckMark anyways?

A very scary incident occurred during the first period that gave many Detroit fans flashbacks to the 1998 series against the St. Louis Blues. A Nick Lidstrom shot from the point hit Chris Pronger, and play had to be halted. However, unlike the 1998 incident, this shot didnt hit Pronger in the chest, but instead hit him in the mouth. Fortunately, Pronger was not injured; however, the game was delayed for 5 minutes as the referees worked to remove the puck which had wedged between his 2 front teeth.

Good times...

Just wanted to add that there were only one proffessional hockey expert who picked Wings to win this series...

Maggie... :)

Here: http://broadband.tsn.ca/?vid=7372

That gives me a little piece of mind. She picked Wings to win both, Calgary and Sharks and now Duck! :)

actually 2...

Scott Burnside picked the Wings in 7 over the Quack...
