Guest bullocks Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Mathieu Schneider-D-Red Wings May. 12 - 11:19 am et Mathieu Schneider told the Fan 590 in Toronto that he will not need corrective surgery on his broken left wrist. He is still likley to miss the rest of the playoffs but should be healthy for training camp in September. Source: Detroit News kinda got me excited for a sec
DmitrifromRussia 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 (edited) When he's out for the rest of the playoffs, is it wise not to take the surgery? And why when doesn't need it we won't be able to see him on ice? What injury he has? If somebody knows please tell. Guest REDWINGS4LYFE Report post Posted May 13, 2007 well corrective surgery is only required when the bone is misalligned as long as they have a cast it should heal
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Hopefully he is wearing a Red Wings uniform still at training camp next September. I was hoping somehow he could make a comeback, but it doesn't seem likely at all. Get well soon Mathieu!
#19forPresident! 1 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Sigh.... Im usually a reader only/lurker and I forgot my login, so I made a new name to respond to your post. Having broken both my wrist and ankle before I would venture to guess that his bone wasn't damaged as badly as they first anticipated. Usually surgery is only a requirement when you have a shattered / misaligned bone that requires pins or screws to be implanted to hold it togeather, or if you have a compound fracture (where the bone punctures out through the skin). Both of my breaks were what they call "hairline" fractures where the bone was broken, but not misaligned, so on the x-ray it looks like little a hair going across the bone. It sounds like Schneid's break must have been worse than that, but not bad enough to merit surgical attention, so my completely unprofessional guess would be that he'll be in a cast and healthy again well before training camp, probably even within a couple weeks after the playoffs. Also, not to hijack the thread, but has anybody heard anything new about Kronwall's condition?

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Great for Schneids. He should try playing with a cast on.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 what?? I've never even heard of surgery for a broken wrist. How the hell could you possibly need surgery unless your bone was shattered? I broke my wrist really bad in hockey a couple years ago (it would only be a slight overstatement to say that I could've fit my hockey stick where my wrist was supposed to be), it was an "acute break" according to doctors. They realigned it by sticking my finger in these chinese fingertrap-like things that hung from the ceiling, then laid a bunch of weights onto my arm to literally pull my arm straight. Then some specialist pushed and pulled on it till he said it was ready for a cast. 9 weeks later my wrist was good as new.
Mudvayneowns91 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 I feel really bad for the guy. If we do indeed win the cup, that kinda sucks for him. I mean he'll get credited with being on the team, but I'm sure he'd kill to be on the ice to win it, ya know?
