Holmstrom: Should he have come back to play?

Rate this topic

I know i loved seeing him come back, but as much as we were all pumped up about him coming back, there really was no need for him to risk any further injury. Sure, it was great that everyone was wanthing him to get a hat trick, but in the long term that would be a really trivial trade off if he were to end up having to miss any games. His helmet came off again in the third as two ducks went after him in the corner. What if his condition is worse than it appeared to be at the time? It is easy to sit back now that everything looks to be fine with him, but everyone would be all over the coach if he had gotten hurt in the third. Holmstrom is being recognized as the important player he is and there is no need to risk losing him in a game that we were dominating in.

He got checked up, didn't have a concussion. There was no reason for him to sit. You know he wanted to be out there, didn't matter if the game was decided. It was a pretty big proverbial f*** you to the Ducks bulls*** cheapshots as well.

Basically, like you and harold said. It was important to have him back out there.

I actually didn't get to see tonight's game... but this is looking so promising. I'm content with these guys tonight. I mean actually content.

It's not his choice, its the coach that gets to make that call. I would expect nothing less from a warrior like Homer than wanting to be on the ice at all times. While not diagnosed as a concussion, any head injury should be considered serious and the rest would have done him nothing but good. Once again everything appears to be great since after the game he said he still felt fine, but lets not act like if he were to get another injury we would have all been as happy. We saw they were still going after him. I was as happy as anyone that he got to play in the third and since he now seems fine more power to him, but i think if he got another injury the FUs would be switched.

Any injury he could have sustained would have been purely coincidental.

We saw they were still going after him.

And they will no doubt continue to do so. Through three games he's been our biggest and best weapon.

He was perfectly OK to go back out and play, so he played, and that's all there really is to it.

Not really, but don't feel like going back and forth over this since he appears to be fine, so i'm cool with that.

Third times the charm with some highlights then im most likely done.

For the same reasons you don't put Hank and Pav out when a game is out of hand, Holmstrom probably shouldn't have been out there. I know we all like to think that him stepping onto the ice in the 3rd made the ducks piss themselves, but they didn't and probably were more happy to show the league that Pronger's hit didn't take him out for as long as it could have. His value to us is more important in the next game than it was in the last 20 minutes of this one. Head injuries are not always black and white, but im glad the dr. gave him the go ahead. The Question isn't " now that Homer is ok should he have come back to play?". The question is "should he have come back to play?" I say no, but understand why others say the opposite though feel they are just focusing on the end results. Once again, i was totaly pumped when i saw him come back and can't wait to see him in game 4.

I'm a little undecided on this one, On the one hand, if you are as big of an impact player as Holmstrom is for the Wings then, in the playoffs, if you can play, you should play.

On the other hand however, I think that Homer coming back out in the third will have an effect on the suspensions handed out, I, PERSONALLY, would be surprised if anyone got suspended.

But I'm not sure that I would be very proud of Homer or the Wings if they just benched Homer to try to get some suspensions and pride is a very big thing with me as far as the Wings are concerned.

So I guess that it is probably better that he came back out and played, it also shows the Ducks that, its going to take alot more then that to get Homer to leave! :sly:

Homer is a warrior and he wouldn't have it any other way. Him coming back was huge.

My Dad was also saying the same thing though..that the Wings should of sat him just in case.

I seriously screamed so freaking loud when I saw him back on the ice in the third. I actually think I had tears in my eyes from excitement?! I really thought he'd be out for awhile, and thank God he is okay!

Do you think Detroit should have sat Holmstrom in the third, i mean not putting him back on the ice at all to play off a bit of an injury...because the NHL will take that into consideration when looking to suspend Pronger. What do you think?

In the postgame press meet (Postgame Press Meet) he said they checked him for a concussion also when he was getting stitched up. If they thought his health was at risk I don't think they would have let him take the chance, so I say if the docs clear him then thats fine by me. I doubt they would put a huge investment like Homer out there when we are up by that much if he wasn't ready to go either.

Actually I think Homer coming back added insult to injury. You cheapshot us ... we keep coming back. Either way, the NHL won't do much. If Homer sat the rest of the game .. you think the NHL would suspend that little ***** Pronger 5 games or something?? Unlikely. We'll be lucky if he gets a game.:thumbdown:
