toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 I was just thinking about this. There is a very good chance that the 2 teams that end up in the SCF will be captained by Europeans and in fact, they would both be Swedes.

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 Oh yeah, I was thinking about that, too. Obviously, I want the Wings to win the Cup. But can you imagine if the Alfredsson led Senators did? CBC would implode.

Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) If two European Captains make it to the SCF's , one of which is a Canadian team, wouldn't that cause Don Cherry to have a brain anyuerism? Edited May 16, 2007 by Winged Scooter
vangvace 12 Report post Posted May 16, 2007 For every year ending in 7, either a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup, or the Detroit RedWings did. 1997, Detroit 1987, Edmonton 1977, Montreal 1967, Toronto 1957, Montreal 1947, Toronto 1937, Detroit 1927, Ottawa 1917, Toronto 1907, Montreal 1897, Montreal *2007, Ottawa or Detroit?? With that said, I guess it's going to be Ottawa or Detroit hoisting the Cup this year. Sorry, Brian Burke. But there's another trend to look at which eliminates Detroit's chance this year. No NHL has ever won the Cup with a minority of Canadian players. Ottawa 14 - Canadians 6 - Europeans 3 - Americans Buffalo 10 - Europeans 8 - Canadians 6 - Americans Anahiem 18 - Canadians 4 - Americans 3 - Europeans Detroit 16 - Europeans 9 - Canadians 5 - Americans So with that said, Detroit is eliminated from the mix with their Euro-squad as Ottawa will play Ahaniem with their Canadian-squads. But wait, there's always the trend that no European Captain wins the Stanley Cup, which then eliminates Ottawa and Detroit (Alfredson/Lidstrom) So who wins the Stanley Cup this year? Which 100 year old trend is continued and which 100 year old trend is broken? .Ottawa or Anahiem, with their Canadian teams? .Ottawa or Detroit, as the trend has shown? .Or will Anahiem hoist the cup with their Canadian team and Canadian Captain? One thing is for sure though, Lindy Ruff ain't winning it with this Euro-squad and French Captain. Other trends? There have been 112 Stanley Cups... 111 have been Canadian Captains. (Hatcher, USA) 107 Stanley Cups have been won by Canadian goalies. There's been 39 Conn Smythe Winners, 37 were Canadian. One can only hope. Cherry is a D-Bag. If the Wings are fortunate enough to move on (and assuming the Sens do as well) the tradition of decades ending in 7 will continue regardless of the SCF winner. Plus you've got the first Swede/Euro Captain to win the cup. It'll be interesting if it happens. Edited May 16, 2007 by Never Forget Mac #

He missed Filpulla on his goal and I think Franzen on his. Those aren't things he usually does.
