I would say C+

He has been out for a long time and needs to get the rhythm back, he also took some bad penalties. On the plus side he was more of a presence that Calder or Hudler. He used his size a bit and seemed to make a few nice moves on the rush. Its a C+ right now but I see a chance for serious improvement as we move forward.

I agree. Those 2 penalties in the 1st got me pretty pissed.

I agree! I think the penaltys were a result of some nerves maybe, and like you said he needs his rhythm back too. C+ here as well.

C+ is being generous. He didnt do anything for me at all, those two bonehead penalties in the first were dumb and i didnt even notice him the rest of the night. I know hes better than he played.....but i like Calder over this guy...i wish they would give calder more playing time when hes in the game.

was unlucky with the 2nd penalty - i thought it hit the glass..

can't really grade him on 7 mins though...

he showed more jump than Calder has though last night

The fact that he played 7 minutes, compared to Calders 3.5 minute playoff average or whatever, is saying something on it's own.

His first penalty was one of those bogus "hooking" that doesn't hinder the other player, nor does it affect play calls. I give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. I really liked the spark he showed, and he was finishing checks all over the place. I think if he gets another game or two, those miscued passes and fanning on shots will fade away, and he'll do well for us.

Can't say he played big role in our victory but you could just tell he was going to be a valuable asset to our club in future

a playoff game now under his belt, hopefully he will not repeat same mistakes next game.

True, but Calder never had the luxury of the team being up by 5 goals either. Kopecky banged bodies and chipped in here and there. All Babs really wanted him to do. The two penalties are the only negatives.

I'll agree with C+ for now.

He skated faster than most others on the ice, which is to be expected considering how much of a break he's had. He looked good down low, but I thought he ruined a dandy chance with him and Draper skating down the left side early in the game. That's all timing.

Other than that, didn't see much. Wasn't able to critique his puck handling or shot selection, since he didn't have the chance to do any of that. With 10 or so minutes on Thursday, we'll get a good glimpse of what he's all about. The coaching staff obviously loves him - they were more confident with him in the lineup early in the season than Filppula or Hudler.

He didn't really add anything, but he did pad our PIM stats. I think Calder would have been given some extra minutes too if he'd been playing and we had a comfortable lead and players to rest or recover.

I don't think he can really be blamed on either penalty, the first one was pretty lame, no question. And on the second one, not only is about to get hit while he is flipping the puck, remember, he's been out for 6+ months, he is going ot be rusty. I think the simple fact that he didn't hurt us in our own zone should give him a C-, I'd go with a C+ becuase he had a strong phscial game.
