bowman said it in 02 and i think it holds true today..........over a 7 game series our depth will wear them down. it wont be easy but nothing worth while ever is. lets not forget that weve played pretty damn well in their building and i like our chances at home for a game 7. were not done yet!!!

Well I figured now would be a good time to make my first post and insert my 2 cents.

First off, I am disappointed with the outcome of todays game just like anyone else here. But, what can you do? It's done with now and we just have to find a way to win one there and then take it back here. Personally, I don't think the Ducks can win 3 games in a series at the Joe. So what follows is my list of reasons why I think we can take this series still...

1. Grit and determination: I think we can all agree that the wings have shown us more of both than anyone expected this playoff year. Why should that end now? I know the fans will piss and moan and be sad with this loss (including me) but the players are professional enough and experienced enough to put it in the past and carry on. That is what they are paid to do. Forge on.

2. Experience: Plenty of guys in the locker room that have been in plenty of adverse situations. I think this is what separates the wings from younger inexperienced teams such as the Ducks.

3. Desperation: Combine the above with the deperate play of having your back to the wall and something is bound to give.

4. Heart: The Wings have shown a hell of a lot of heart through the playoffs. I suspect we will see more, even if it comes to a bitter end.

5. Intangibles/Breaks: Mickey Redmond once said that in a 7 game series breaks have a way of evening out. I recall him saying it in 02 when we were down 0-2 in the first 2 games against Vancouver. Well, we all know what ended up happening with the breaks in that series....

6. The 02 Colorado series: I don't think the wings will repeat and win game 6 and 7 just because they did it in 02. I think they will do it because of the reasons above mixed with the fact that there are a handful of guys left that can draw off that experience.

Regardless of what happens, the Wings have proved many people wrong and exceeded expectations of many. People should'nt be angry with them if they lose this series. It's playoff hockey and anything can happen. But be proud of the Red Wings, I know I am.

it's not normal for me to be overly optimisic or to count my chickens before they hatch - and i understand why people would think that about this thread... first off, i had an overwhelming feeling that we would lose the game once that a-hole neidermayer tied it up. I now have an overwhelming feeling like we're going to win it all. I think the root of this is how well we played and how flukey their goals have been. And MAINLY, I feel that losing 2 in a row will wake up the wings. Hopefully it will propel us into the finals like it did in '02.

anyway, i have a good feeling about the way we've been playing and I think we'll play with some major urgency for the rest of the post season.

Something even more freaky? How alike the games were.

Game 1 against the Avs: Wings win

Game 1 against the Ducks: Wings win

Game 2 against the Avs: Wings lose 4-3 in OT

Game 2 against the Ducks: Wings lose 4-3 in OT

Game 3 against the Avs: Wings win

Game 3 against the Ducks: Wings win

Game 4 against the Avs: Wings lose in regulation

Game 4 against the Ducks: Wings lose in regulation

Game 5 against the Avs: Wings lose 2-1 in OT

Game 5 against the Duckss: Wings lose 2-1 in OT

We all know what happened the next two games..

Now I know it's not the same teams and bla bla bla..but it's pretty freaky and a huge coincidence..and well I've got all the faith in the world that the outcome will be the same.

I can't believe it, maybe the reffs had to fix todays game? Let me just say that I knew this would happen, based on the 2002 WCF series. If things are about to happen the same way in 2002, let me congratulate Teemu on the last goal his team will score this year. With that being said, whos going to lead us to victory? I know Dom can hold his end, but is this the hour where Hank steps up and leads the offensive rush? I am proud of the Wings.... after several early exits and votes of no confidence, we showed up for some hockey and have made it this far.... even if we lose to the Ducks, I can live with it, but I will still be pissed about the Ducks Sens finals....

Oh, just some more excitement....

Wings beat the Avs in '02 in 7 games, and beat a Cinderella Hurricane team in 5 games, (even tho Ottawa is seed 5 and Carolina was seed 3 in '02), right now the Sens are the Cinderella team....

Also in 2002 Wings beat a Canadian team (Canucks) in the 1st round in 6, just like this year. I think they beat the Blues in 6 in the 2nd round that year too, like San Jose this year.

I really hope history does repeat as well, but I also hope Pronger breaks his leg or something in the upcoming games. Is that too much to ask? That or the booing by our fans keeps up at the Pond because you know we will be there, just like Hawkeye fans or roaches us Wing fans are plentiful and there is no end of the earth we aren't on.

Yeah, history is repeating alright...it's exactly like the Sharks series, except the Wings are the Sharks and the Ducks are the Wings.

hagahahah that actually made me laugh

...but not really, because we had game 6 at the shark tank...ducks have game 6 at home ;)

Wings in 7

nothing more

nothing less

Actually, this is the 35th playoff win Ive gotten to see from the Duck in the last four seasons. More than any other NHL team over that stretch. And I've see many more when the team was still in Winnipeg.

Get out yer razors, wings.

Didn't the Winnipeg Jets relocate and become the Phoenix Coyotes? If I remember correctly The Ducks were founded in 93 as an expansion team. I suggest "The Booth" do "some research" and remove self from bandwagon since you have no knowledge of "your" team.

i just want to say right now,

that no matter what happens tuesday night , i am so proud of this Red Wings team.

so many players have stepped it up this post-season that i never would have thought (Lilja, Sammy, Cleary)

and they have proved so many people wrong,

now in no way is this some kind of softening - of - the - blow statement,

but Red Wings, you guys have played great thus far,

keep fightin!

Look, I'm not sure how much of the regular season you guys watched, but didn't the Wings win the Presidents? Weren't they favored in all but 5 playoff games this season? EVERY series?

How is finishing in 3rd place acceptable? How is CHOKING in back to back games that could have sent Detroit through to the final a satisfactory result? This Wing team, at this age, FAILED, and did so miserably.

So you can't pull the old "we fought hard but we just didn't have enough in the tank" card. You posters are trying to make this run out to be Hoosiers status.

This is where your trolling behavior has made you wrong once again. The Wings didn't win the Presidents Trophy. The Buffalo Sabres did.

Get the hell out of here. Why in the flying f*** do you care about what we think? You are a Ducks fan. You don't even pay attention to the media attention of this team.

My way of looking at it is this: the Wings weren't supposed to win anything according to most hockey pundants. First they were supposed to not make the playoffs. Then Calgary would eliminate us. Then San Jose would eliminate us. None of that happened. If the Wings get knocked out, yes I'll be disappointed, but they still exceeded expectations far from what most thought.

Just thought I'd share this in one of these many post-game-5 threads.

Got sick of reading them.....so I hollered to the boy in the frontroom (7 YRS OLD).."Hey John - who's gonna win game 6?" "Red Wings dad."........without further prompting........says.........uhhhhh....."3 goals to 1".

So there ya go. You may now leave your computer till game 7. You heard it here first, and you can thank him later.

If he's right anything he wants he gets right guy's.

This is from a true bandwagon fan.If he was areal fan he would know that you stand by your team no matter what.

Booth it's up to you to stick by your team even when they lose,But I see you don't.Please take your lose stool talk back to the Duck board ok.Thanks for stopping by,see ya.

Truer words have never been spoken.See booth we'er fans in it for our team no matter what happens. But hey we don't expect you to understand you are probably just now watching your first playoff games ever, and thus makes you hockey dumb.

Like KP WING said we might be disappionted if the Wings lose but we will still be proud.

Maybe I'm confused but I believe the Ducks were an expansion team and the team from Winnipeg you mentioned (The Jets) were moved to Phoenix.

EDIT: Hurray for me somehow missing what WingsZR2 already posted. Don't know how I missed that one.

I would'nt put it past Hasek (no pun intended) to pull a shutout again in Game 6. He's 100% Save Percentage when Detroit faces Elimination. Not bad.

You cannot bet against him until he loses a series for us. That's how I feel.

Did you read this thread? Nobody here is pulling the "gee whiz, we tried, nothing to be ashamed of" card. Nobody (almost) here is giving up ... the posters in this thread are saying WE CAN WIN THIS. The team has exceeded expectations at every point this year ... we were picked to finish as a low seed for the playoffs - didn't happen. The majority of the experts picked us to lose to Calgary and SJ - didn't happen. And now people are writing us off again - guess what? Isn't going to happen. We've shown we can play and outplay the ducks, a few bounces here and there and you wouldn't even be posting here now, you'd be golfing, but that's the way it goes. It takes nothing away from the ducks, they are a good team and we've let them hang around to get those bounces instead of putting them away. No worries, we'll take care of business Tuesday.
