SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Lilja definitely deserves kudos for handling his screw up like a professional, not cowering away, and answering all questions and taking responsibility. It's a shame it played a major part in costing the Wings the game, but his play overall this playoffs has been extremely solid and he's busting his rear out there. He's definitely made me proud so far this playoffs, and I hope it's been the same for other members as well. And everybody here on LGW deserves some kudos as well. While I didn't go into any game day threads yesterday, so I probably avoided him getting roasted immediately after the gaffe which is to be expected in the heat of the moment obviously, I have not seen one typical Lilja ripping post once the atmosphere started to calm down later in the evening. Everybody give yourself a pat on the back for sticking behind Lilja and giving him his deserved credit.
Stevie Y Forever 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 The overtime game winning goal was completley Franzen's fault and not Lilja's. He had the puck on his forehand for a good two or three seconds in the zone shorthanded.. he should have iced it.. instead he went to his backhand and tried to get it around Pronger. Bad decision, he should have just iced it. I don't neccessarily blame him for the loss, he didn't make any other mistakes the entire game. Just the one he did cost us the game. However we can't forget that these guys are professional athletes, and we have enough veterans in our locker room to keep our young guys cool. You cannot go through an entire playoffs without facing elimination once, it will happen. For us our first time this season will be tomorrow, and we will over come. We have enough expirience to understand how serious Game 6 is... and in no way would I underestimate the Wings tomorrow.
ltgator333 3 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 What Lilja did after the game took balls, he realized he had a brainfart and took responsibility for it. But really you can't blame the guy because if he hadn't scored the only goal they got all night there wouldn't have been an overtime anyway. If anyone I blame all the other players on the team that couldn't get a puck in the net. All they really needed was one more goal and it would've been game over time, not overtime. ILWingsFan1 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 (edited) Nobody should be blaming only Lilja at all. You can't blame one player in a team sport. All the blaming that goes on here gets a liittle old. "Fire Babcocck!" "Bench Hasek!" "Lilja is a goat!" With all th jumping on and off the bandwagon, I bet there are a lot of sprained ankles among Red Wing "fans." edicius 3,269 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Lilja is quickly becoming one of my most respected guys on the team. I'm glad he'll be back with us next season. Sure, he may not be the best player on the ice. He may not even be the second-best defenseman on the ice many nights (best belongs to Nick, of course). But damn it if that @#$%er doesn't have heart. And say what you want about grit...but it's heart that wins Stanley Cups. Ask Steve Yzerman. There's something about being a Red Wing that turns players into champions. I'm very seriously tempted to make my next jersey a Lilja one.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Lilja interview I love you, Andreas! I've seriously went from not caring about him at all in the beginning of the season to now having so much respect for him, and him actually being one of my........faves. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 Our focus should be 'How the HELL do we beat Giguere?' Which loops us back to the main topic again - Andreas Lilja! Train's got in figured out. High glove, man!
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 (edited) I will give Lil' Ja props after I see how he handles his goof up on the ice tonight. if that was the straw that broke the camels back with him and we are back to the Lil' Ja of old... than no such props will be handed out by me. But if he shakes it off as a true professional and continues to play solid than well he should get some. Edited May 22, 2007 by OsGOD
