Cheli and Lilja were our two best D men the entire playoffs.

Something you have yet to realize.

Lilja did fine, minus one mistake.

Better than Lidstrom if you ask me.

You still seem to miss the fact that Hasek played like s*** in the last 4 games of the series.

Ok whatever dude you can sit here and bash their D but then you go and say Minus one mistake at first you made it seem like they couldn't do anything right i think your just confused about what you're saying Lidstrom was amazing the whole season and playoffs Just know If schneider and kronwall would have played the wings would have won the series and you would have been praising their D you're not a true fan

WTF?

They didnt lose Lidstrom and Zetterberg, did they?

Or maybe I missed that.

It was an example to show how stupid your argument is. Look at this quote from Babcock:

"When (Niklas) Kronwall got hurt in Dallas (on March 30), I almost threw up on the bench," Babcock said late Tuesday night. "I thought, 'You lose a marquee defenseman like that at playoff time, and how do you overcome that?' And when we lost (Mathieu) Schneider in Game 5 of the San Jose series, you're saying to yourself, 'How the heck is this going to work?'"

But you probably know more than he does. Injuries don't count because every team has them!

Listen, I'm not saying that's the sole reason they lost, but you can't deny that losing the two of them is a HUGE loss.

okay redwinguofmfan, i was with ya on lilja being solid minus one mistake until the he was better than lidstrom comment. This makes me question your hockey knowledge.

However what people dont understand about Bertuzzi is that this guy was around 60% and he hasnt played in three seasons. Never in his stay with us was he healthy or did he have his legs under him, and he was still productive. Give this guy an offseason to get healthy and a training camp to get in shape. Trust me, all he has to do is get to within a shadow of himself pre/steve moore incident and he will be dominant for us. He is the perfect nasty/gritty player we have always wanted/needed. Why give him up? We need guys like Bertuzzi to create space/protect guys like Zet, Dats, Filp. Like we saw the past 3 cup runs, you cant win without grit. This season we had grit and boom, we go to the WCFs.

If it wasn't for a putrid fluke goal off of Lids stick, we would be going to the cup. Overall, the D played fantastic given the absence of Schneider and Kronwall.

There should be a disclaimer to the nonsense that is being written in these 'keep Bertuzzi' threads once you enter this site.

Get it through your head - Bertuzzi is NOT the player he once was or anything near the player we thought he was going to be for us. That player is gone. I know it might hurt to hear it, but that part of his game is gone. It's more than injuries my friend, wake up. I don't want Holland wasting valuable money signing this guy for another 2 years.

I don't care what it costs. Look elsewhere Kenny.

You guys are right, no other team faces injuries in the playoffs.

God knows the ducks were 100% healthy.

Stay on topic. The Ducks were healthy, unless you're counting Ric Jackman as an important cog on defense. We were not. Simple.

No Marchant for the previous series' - it ain't like they missed him, cmon. Lose a Chris Kunitz with the broken hand against us - that never made a bit of difference and surely wasn't gonna decide this series. But looking at the Wings - losing 2 of their top 4 defensemen? Exactly what team do you know that can laugh that off? Yes, Anaheim won the series, but to say they DESERVED to is simply ignorant. Interesting to see what they do when they meet a healthy team like Ottawa ... a team very similar to Detroit [aside from Emery/Hasek].

I dont know about the Lids remark but I do agree on Dom playing like s*** the last few games and that is what hurt the team the most !

it is a MUST to re-sign Todd Bertuzzi. It boggles my mind as to why people bash this guy. It would surprise me if he was above 70% in his entire stay as a red wing. Additionally, the guy hasnt played in 3 frigging seasons. Any argument made against this guy is out of complete and utter ignorance and i have to question if you have any real hockey knowledge

I have to disagree. and take exception to being labeled as ignorant and without hockey knowledge.

First, who is to say that Bertuzzi will EVER be at %100 again? He's not exactly fresh out of college. He has been a great player in the past, but that's not today, right now.....and may not be tomorrow. I just don't accept that Bertuzzi will make or break the Wings all by himself. Once upon a time, he was that kind of difference maker, but I don't see it anymore.

The second thing that has to happen goal tending. I dont think Howard is ready to carry the load, and i doubt if Hasek can stay healthy in two consecutive seasons. This is an area we may have to get lucky.

That I can agree with completely. To boot, Hasek looked terrible at times in the playoffs.

wow. Between that and the whole 'missing 2 of the top 3 D men doesn't matter' thing.......just wow.

The Wings will definitely be an elite team again next season, but you won't be able to tell from the media and opposing fans. We'll once again be pummeled with "LOL THEY'RE NOT PHYSICAL!!1", or "LOL THEY CHOKE IN THE FIRST ROUND", etc. I don't care if the Wings are considered favorites, because they let their play respond to that every year.
