Who is your favorite all time player, AND your favorite active player?

Favorite all time, I would have to say Gordie Howe, Dino Ciccarelli and Igor Larionov.

Current, well, anyone who knows me at all knows where my allegiance lies...Pasha, plain and simply, rules.

Non-Wings... Slava Kozlov, Mark Mowers and Manny Legace. Once a Wing, always a Wing at heart.

I've been playing goal for years now so my all time favorite players are goalies and the one that tops the list is Hasek. I really enjoyed watching him play, before he even came to Detroit, due to his style of play.

past- Mr. Hockey, and Vlad is a true Hero.

present- Kronwall (or did the 55fan give that away?)

I'm looking at what he has done in other places when not injured (Sweden 2006, GR during the lockout) and I think the guy has great potential.

Also love Cheli, Dats and anyone whose mother probably has a recipe for lingenberry jam. Flip is growing on me. Love to watch Malts, Cleary, and Draper together.

Dad's fave is Lang. Hope they keep him or dad will want his Wings shirt back in place of his Lang one.

Non wings-

I LOVE Peter Budaj, for no reason other than the fact that my little sister thinks Jose is "dreamy" and goes bezerk when I say I LOVE Peter Budaj.

Past- Yzerman. I grew up watching him. I wanted so desperately for him to win a cup and then it finally happened in '97. And then again in '98, and '02. He is the embodiment of everything good in sports. He's the polar opposite of the Mike Vick's of the sporting world. So much has been said that i'm not really sure there's anything more I can add

Present- Lidstrom. The thought of our team after he retires makes me feel ill :(

In a close second is Hasek, I've always liked the guy but this year, at least in my opinion there has been a lot more of those awesome yet terrifying "HOLY CRAP WHAT ARE YOU DOING HASEK OH GOD" ,moments . Usually things end up ok and I can retrieve my thrown remote and sit down with a grin on my face. "That's Dominik Hasek, the craziest(and funniest) goal tender ever"

All time - Brad May

Yeah, that probably looks like a really odd choice to most of you, but consider the runner-up is Tony Twist

How can you choose those guys over Bob Probert and Joe Kocur?

They'd both be up there for sure (i was always a little more of a Kocur guy), but i dont know, I just took a really big liking to May in his Buffalo days so he's always been my boy.

Yzerman is my all time fav, and for current player I'm going to have to go with Iggy. He plays hockey the way it should be played and he knows how to take care of himself. It's not to often you have a guy who can score 50 goals and hit and fight the way he does. He is also quite responsible in his own end which makes him a complete player, so I guess thats why I like him.

My favorite all time player is the great Stevie Yzerman. I could go on and on why he is my favorite. But as for my favorite current player, that goes to Mr. Hank Zetterberg. I love the way he plays the game. And there is no doubt in my mind that after Nick retires, Hank will be sporting the Captain's C. What about you guys?

Favorite all-time: Tie: Gordie Howe & Dino Ciccarelli

Favorite active: Brendan Shanahan

I hated to see him leave but watching him score goals and make the Rangers a way better team than they were prior to his arrival reminded me of when he came to Detroit and got us over the Colorado hump. Plus, when he stepped up and fought a good fight with Donald Brashear to protect Jagr, just goes to show that nearing 40 years the ole Irishman's still a true old-time hockey player, a great teammate and a man of honor. Not too mention a tough ass SOB.

Ummm...Schnieder shoots left as well, or am I missunderstanding you?

Schneids shoots left, but plays right point... especially on the PP. Makes it harder to take the puck off the boards, simply because your on your backhand. However, it makes it much easier to line up shots at net because left shots on the right points put pucks smack down the middle slot easier.

Lids shoots left and plays left point. Easier to take pucks off boards, but is more un-natural defenceman style. This is why Lids does the blue-line-butt-wiggle-so-I-can-take-better-shot dance when he backs up to the slot. <--- That is how I play. Left defence, left handed shooter.

Simply put... Schneids and Lids are excellent caliber D-men, and can switch easily between the 2. However, having Left D-men that shoot right-handed are preferred. This is why I love it when Chelios (Left point, right shot) and Lebda (right point, left shot) play on a line together. It seems a bit tedious, but simple things like that can make a difference in the game. Having all left shooting D-men out there can give problems to the wings, and has. Fortunately, we have STELLAR D and they can neutralize mistakes that can occur because of this unbalance.
