Zetter is Better 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Mike Fisher and Cris Philips were paul bearers at his funeral and Elgin and Mike Fisher were best friends. Fish would go visit him and play trucks and hockey with him. It was all over the news how much the Sens helped him. They showed some of the funeral on T.V here in Ottawa and Mike Fisher actually broke down in tears at the funeral. It was really sad. The Sens are a really classy team and they are always helpin' out in the community, makes me proud to be from Ottawa. Like the ava says...... GO SENS GO! I just recently read an article about this little guy too, I'll have to check out the video on TSN. I was rooting Sens anyway, but this story is just even more reason to like that organization. You've got to respect the kindness, generosity and support some people have for complete strangers in need. Especially pro athletes who have it all, some of which can be the most selfish people in existance. Alot of people don't know, but Yzerman had a very similar relationship with a kid from Denver diagnosed with nueroblastoma that he met back in 96'. Per his request there was never much media coverage on it beyond one or two articles over the last decade. He's still going on strong last I heard earlier this year. Fortunately he seems to deal with treatments pretty positively, I think he's 11 this year and was born with the condition. Thats just a class act on the part of the Senators organization and those individuals envovled. For supporting the family through such a tragedy, being a friend to this kid, and helping him smile when its probably the last thing most people would do in his position. Hats off to them. I really hope they raise the cup, that little dude will be upstairs with the big man watching on with better seats than anybody else God bless his soul, and all of those he touched. GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 That was so heartbreaking and sad, yet a very touching story. Mike Fisher is awesome. Major props to him. Hockey players are truly the kindest. I really hope the Sens win it for him.. I'm sure they will! Mike Fisher and Cris Philips were paul bearers at his funeral and Elgin and Mike Fisher were best friends. This makes me like him even more. I'd always tell people that there is one team in Canada that I absolutely don't mind at all and that is the Sens. They really remind me of the Wings in almost every way.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 (edited) The Sens have a little angel sitting on their bench during this Final. They don't need any more inspiration, I'd say. I was already a fan of Fisher's (and Phillips) before this story. Are there any better men in the sports world than NHL players? I think not. That video was just a heartbreaker, but I loved the clip of Emery allowing that five-hole goal. It made me laugh, as well as like Emery even more. Go, Sens, GO!! Win it for Elgin! Haha I totally loved when Ray did that. He totally widens his pads to let it go through. Cutest thing ever.
