Babchuk on the Trade Market Again

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

he was once a top prospect and for some reason everyone wants to trade the guy is he worth taking a chance on ?? hes only 23 , and im not saying we'll pull an anaheim and get lucky like they did with beauchemin but i think it might be worth a shot , rumoured price is a 2nd round pick .......heres some info on him

Birthdate: May 6, 1984

Age: 23

Birthplace: Kiev, USSR

Height: 6'5

Weight: 212 lbs.

Shoots: Right

Salary: $900,600

NHL Seasons: 2

Drafted by Chicago in 2002 (1/21)

Acquired in a trade with Chicago in 2006.

Scouting ReportAssetsDisplays untapped offensive potential and a big shot from the point. Owns enough physical ability to dominate the back line.

FlawsNeeds to round out his game, especially in the defensive zone, since he's still very raw. Must be more disciplined on and off the ice. Career potentialTop four defenseman.

He might be worth taking a look at if he can be had for cheap. He hasn't had much of a chance to prove himself anywhere he's gone, constantly going up and down from the minors and riding the bench for weeks at a time.

Do you have a source for this rumor?

Babchuck would be a great pickup for cheap. He has all the aspects to be a top defenseman. He posses the coveted ability to put up points and be a physical defenseman at the same time, and I think he might make it here. As long as he isn't a glass statue like Kronwall, or isn't a cancer, I'd like to see the Wings take a shot at him.

Hmmm.... Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit picks him up. There's potential.

heres the source .... http://thefourthperiod.com/news/car070524.html

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes plan on trading defenseman Anton Babchuk. According to the News & Observer, the 23-year-old is being offered around the league for a second-round pick in June's draft.

heres their thoughts ...

Babchuk has many years in him, but it won't be with the Hurricanes. The team tried trading him for a good part of this year, but apparently the price was too high. The Canes expect to move him before the draft.

How big was Fisher, maybe he could be molded like Cheli did with Fisher; definitly worth the chance

Birthdate: July 31, 1980

Age: 26

Birthplace: Horovice, Czechoslovakia

Height: 6'5

Weight: 235 lbs.

Shoots: Left

Salary: $1,444,000

NHL Seasons: 6

Drafted by Detroit in 1998 (1/25)

fischer was 23 pounds heavier then babchuk , id still take a shot on babchuck hes a big body, wont cost us much and is only 23 he can learn alot playing with lidstrom and chelios .....if we got him though it would slow down the progress of younger guys we got if we were to keep schneider and markov ,unless we go a younger cheaper route ? with upside ??

lidstrom babchuk

kronwall kindl

lebda chelios

quincey

dont see it happening though

lidstrom sarich

kronwall babchuk

lebda chelios

quincey

??? we stil have lilja though , i doubt hes going anywhere

the reason he's been trade bait is because he refused a demotion to lowell during the season. The guy reportedly has a bit of an attitude problem. I don't see that mixing very well with babs.

well in carolina there mostly a bunch of young kids i think if he played here with future hall of famers and repeated cup winners he'd show alot more respect and listen

his attitude problem was b\c he got screwed over. He was playing top 4 minutes and was one of if not the best Dman while hedican and Kaberle were out with injuries...they come back and they felt it was easier to send a player with a 2 way contract down then healthy scratching hutchinson or tanabe. I would have had the same attitude problem...if u know your one of the best and the send you down to save money and not play the better Dman, thats a problem i would have.

Karmanos doing something to make Illitch's team better? Unless Detroit is the only one who wants Babchuk, I doubt well get him. Karmanos and Illitch hate each other.

thats true

we'll have to ask a team who doesnt want him to get him for us ? lol maybe chicago since they did trade him away and we did trade them williams , so maybe theyd do buisness with us lol

I watched alot of Canes hockey this past season (2nd fave team) and I've gotta say, I wasn't really impressed. Yeah, he's young and big, but he had way too many turnovers in front of his own net. Somebody that size shouldn't be easily pushed off the puck, but it happened. Repeatedly.

You found the one flaw.

Now that you bring that up, count this trade out. It won't happen. Karmanos and Illitch would fight to the death if they were ever in the same room for more then five minutes.

they can always trade with another team to get babchuk for them .......it can be done

someone trades a 2nd round pick for babchuk

then we say trade a 3rd round pick and meech for example

it can be done if we really want it to

If Karmanos caught wind of this plan, he'd cancel the whole thing. Karmanos would rather eat Babchucks salary up for the next 20 years then ever risk helping Illitch or the Wings. I really have my doubts about this now that Younguns pointed out the whole Karmonos thing.

I'd still like to see Babchuck here though. If given the proper minutes, he could be a great defenseman. He could as be a great replacement for Kronwall, who will *probably* get injured again.

But Kronwall is another subject for another day, so let's not talk about him right now.

I'd love the idea of this. He's that big physical defenseman we've been lacking, and If we signed Sarich to go along with him, that be a great tandum to stop those big checking lines that gave us trouble in the playoffs.
