Canadians apparently prefer the Ducks

Because it's Ottawa, the Nations Capital, the place that taxes us to death and then screws around with our hard earned money. When it comes to sports City/Team Pride comes before National Pride.

IF the Sens win the Cup, I'm sure there will be Sens fans that will rub it in the face of fans from the other Canadian teams/cities. Plus Leafs and Canadiens fans hate Alfredsson with a passion, the last thing they want to see is him lift a Cup before Koivu and Sundin.

Just because a team is from Canada, doesn't mean everyone from Canada has to cheer for them. Think if the role was reversed. Imagine if it was in the heyday of the Wings/Avs rivalry and Colorado was playing Montreal in the final. Just because you are from Michigan doesn't mean you have to cheer for Colorado because they are American. Any true blue Wings fan would be cheering for Montreal.

Edit: Most of my friends who are Leaf fans don't want to see the Sens win it.

When it comes to sports, the city comes before the country.

I thank you for for replying to my post and explaining your point of view and all the reason's why some fan's may not like to support the Senators . I can respect that.

I cant really call them wierd, given that I myself root for the teams with the most Canadians and im American!

Just curious here- but can I ask why? I don't really care what the national origins of a teams' players are. I'm more interested in the character of those guys and the types of players they are. For example, I think Lidstrom and Alfredsson are great captains and players - why would I root against them because they are Swedish? All teams have some Canadian players regardless. Anyhow, no harm meant, I just wonder why it matters to people so much; a hockey player is a hockey player.

I am canadian i live in vancouver and oddly everyone is a ducks fan including me

Maybe because you're geographically closer to Anaheim than Ottawa??? Just a thought. Ottawa is closer to Detroit - maybe that's why we like them more (other than they beat us; but they beat the Canucks too).

I should be ashamed of myself?!?!?!? What I'm saying is that if a Canadian team is playing surely most fan's would want one of there own team's to win . Am I speaking in a different language or something for you not to be able to understand what I'm saying???

Actually I have no idea what you are saying. I think the one poster said it best. If Colorado were playing the Habs in the Final, would any Red Wings fan cheer for them because they are an American team? No that would be ridiculous. What is this, the Cold War? It's hockey for crying out loud. Cheer for a team in the SCF because they are Canadian. No, you cheer for a team because you want to. Not because it's the "right thing to do." The right thing is to allow a person to cheer for who they want to.

I can understand both sides of it.

FYI, I'm a WWE fan and last night I was at RAW @ the ACC in Toronto. When we found out Ottawa lost Game 1 a bunch of the fans started chanting "Ottawa Sucks". I thought it was funny!

Edit: For the record, I'm Canadian (check my profile), but I really don't care who wins. I picked Anaheim to win the Cup before the playoffs started, so I would like to see them win so I can be correct with my pick

Any Canadian that doesn't want a Canadian team to win should be ashamed of themselves. it doesn't matter who you support you should alway's back your own.

That's a ridiculous thing to say. I'm an American, so I guess I'm not allowed to root for the Habs?

Oddly enough, that was the Michael J. Fox (Spin City, etc.) commenting about it. I'm surprised he would root for Anaheim, since he is a Canucks fan, and the Ducks eliminated them.

Makes sense to me. I almost always root for the team that knocks my favorite team out. In my opinion, it's better to lose to a Cup winner than someone eliminated a round or two later.

It's probably mostly Leaf and Habs fans that are sick with jealousy right now, that are rooting for Anaheim.

In Habs land, it's about 60% rooting for Ottawa, and 40% for the Ducks. Top reasons for rooting for the Ducks are that they don't want to see a division rival win the Cup and they are proud the Habs are the last Canadian team to win the Cup, and don't want another team to take that from them. Also, Ray Emery is not a popular guy among Habs fans.

It's the same nonsense I hear from idiot Laffs fans who ask me why I cheer for the Red Wings. "They're American" or "They're all a bunch of commies." I always say "shut the hell up and concentrate on cheering for your own deadbeat team. Oh I live in Canada so I should cheer for a Canadian team. That is so stupid I don't know where to begin. I'm not allowed to like Z or Dats because they are not Canadian. I can't like Hasek because he's Czech. I have to cheer for my own. Guess what. Canadians all have roots to other countries. I mean if you want to get technical. I just find people's reasonings to be very dumb. I cheer for who I want to be because...its none of anyone's damn business. Period.

Now when its Team Canada playing against TEam USA or TEam Russia, then of course I support the Canadian players! But the Red Wings come first by dammit!

I guess its a stereotype thing. When you think of a team with alot of europeans, you think about them having a total finesse game. While a Canadian dominated team would be labeled as the hard, gritty variety. As a fan, I much much prefer the latter so naturally i just always lean towards the team with the most Canadians. Its just second nature. Do you know what i mean? Plus, theres all those years of being a Don Cherry fan in me :D

Well I'm from Scotland and the rivalry and hatred between Celtic and Rangers is so much that people have lost their lives because of it . but when Rangers play in Europe I want them to win because it's for the good of my country that ALL teams are playing well and representing their country. Do you understand what I'm saying know .??? I'm not questioning anybodys National pride or anything what I'm saying is that a Canadian team hasn't won the Cup for a long time and I thaught that just maybe most Canada would want one of their own to win.
